It all began this morning as I was leaving the Great Hall after breakfast and heading to my first class. I was exhausted, having stayed up every night this week, struggling to finish mountains of homework. Because I didn't feel like walking through the crowded hall, I decided to take a little-known shortcut on the seventh floor.
As I was walking, I noticed a lot of noise coming from down the corridor. When I got closer, I realized that someone was standing in the doorway to the Room of Requirement, flinging various objects, most of which seemed to be some sort of antique, out into the hallway, where they landed on a pile that had already formed there.
Before I could ask him what he was doing, he rounded on me, and I recognized the face of none other than Harry Potter.
"What are you doing here?!" he asked in a harassed tone.
"I could ask you the same thing" I replied, watching as he flung another handful of objects, including a rather handsome golden teapot.
"I know the Horcruxes are here somewhere!" he shouted. I had no idea what this meant, so, ignoring him, a walked over to examine the pile. There were all sorts of interesting objects, many of them made of precious metals or encrusted with jewels, and all quite dusty. My eyes rested on the little golden teapot, and, glancing around, I picked it up.
Immediately I realized that there was something strange about it- it was an unusual shape for a teapot, and it seemed to glow more than gold ordinarily would under torchlight. In order to get a better look, I rubbed it with my sleeve, trying to get rid of some of the dust.
Suddenly, a blinding light erupted from my hands, and I dropped the teapot. I glanced to my left to see if potter had noticed, but the door to the Room of Requirement had vanished; no doubt potter was inside, searching for more...whatever.
I turned back toward the light, and my eyes widened. A gigantic human form, or so it appeared, was erupting from the teapot, slowly revealing itself to have a great head with many eyes, and a body as golden as it's source. Finally, it opened it's enormous mouth.
“I AM THE GOLDEN DJINN!” it boomed.
“Erm... hello” I replied nervously, glancing around hopefully for signs of a professor, or even that nosy Filch.
The djinn turned it's many eyes toward me. “WAS IT YOU WHO SUMMONED ME?!” it asked in a voice that was both beautiful and terrifying.
“Ah...well... are you a nice djinn, or are you... you know, the scary kind that... um climbs on men's backs and...ah... misleads travellers in the forest, or...” my voice trailed off.
“AH.” it replied. “I AM A WISH-GRANTING DJINN!”
“Oh, so you are nice?” I asked, relieved.
It laughed. “What is your wish?”
Naturally, I had to consider the possibilities. What did I desire the most? I thought of the pile of books and papers waiting for me back in the Slytherin dorms and grinned wickedly.
“I wish I had no homework!”
The djinn smiled, it's great eyes unblinking. “It shall be done.”
And with that, it was gone. I looked at my watch, and jumped. I had missed my entire first class! At least I knew I wouldn't have any homework. So, I hurried down to the dungeons for my next lesson: double potions.
When I got here, I was a few minuted early, so I decided to go ahead and pull out last night's homework, the last homework I would ever turn in... but it was gone! I checked my bag, my books, everywhere- but it was nowhere to be found. In fact, my homework for my other classes was gone too. For a moment, I wondered if someone might have taken it from my bag during breakfast...and then it hit me.
“No homework” I murmured to myself. The djinn had kept it's promise.
