Moderators are working on the forum to keep it a good place for everyone to have fun, and enjoy reading every single topics. They are essential. They are chosen by Emma, and can change at any time during the year. Being moderator is a responsibility, a job, which requires a lot of time and patience. It is not linked to any HOL position, it is not a privilege. You don't become moderator when you become Prefect or Professor for example. It really is a lot of work to moderate the forum and all its areas, and everyone should respect the moderators for that.

Moderators can delete, move, edit topics and single posts. They can also lock topics. They will send a PM to the author of a post, or topic starter, if anything is done to a single post or whole topic. If a topic is locked or a post edited, the reason will be posted but you won't get any PM.

Moderators always have a valid reason when they move/delete/lock a topic. You shouldn't discredit them or their work. There is no abuse of power, every mod action is logged and can be checked if needed. Like students can lose points for not following the forum guidelines, moderators can also lose points or lose their position if they don't follow the "moderating guidelines".

There are two types of moderators. The Global moderators are mods in all areas of the forum, they can move/delete/lock topics everywhere in the forum. The Area moderators are mods of a specific area and can only moderate that specific place. If you encounter a problem with a moderator, please PM him/her and try to solve the problem this way. If this is not possible, then PM one of the Admins, Emma or Prof. Rhiannon Llewellyn.
