Module #2 - "MONOLOGUES" - Fall 2020

Post by Prof. Sindor Aloyarc »

Welcome to the Module 02 "Monologues" thread! Consider what you've written down from your brainstorm in the Meditation portion of our exercises. What jumps out at you that's wanting to be explored a little more deeply? Come up with a topic based around these meditations and write an essay about your personal perspective on the matter ("Scroll-and-a-Half" / 150 words). This could be a single aspect or multiple elements from your list. In addition to sending in via e-mail, if you feel like sharing with your peers go ahead and post here with or without including your "Meditation" and/or "Mindfulness" responses added in together. This is voluntary and will not effect your points one way or another, however it will add to our community vibe and could stir up conversation for any "Mingling" points you may wish to accrue as Extra Credit.

I was really struck by the concept of Hope being a two sided coin, with Pain on one side and Pleasure on the other and Balance being the key. I have a close relative with an eating disorder. His weight has ballooned to over 450 pounds. He eats with gusto, and he eats often. For him, the subsequent weight gain has cased him significant pain in his life. It has created Diabetes and made mobility rather difficult. He has lost Hope with ever losing any amount of weight.

I'm thinking if he were to reduce his eating, he would perhaps experience even more pleasure from the activity, especially if he focused on every bite. I suspect he isn't doing that currently. Once he finished eating, he might experience the pain of having to deny himself, and that could be intense, but if he accepts those feelings and takes responsibility for them, then they will dissipate. Perhaps this balance between the Pleasure of eating and the Pain of denying himself and the acceptance of both with result in a more healthier him.
