Doughnuts!

Post by Prof. Kendra Givens »

Today, June 5th, is National Doughnut Day in the U.S! As I was driving over to get a maple doughnut, I got to wondering...what's your favorite kind of doughnut? Is there any kind of way you prefer to eat your doughnut or tradition associated with your doughnut eating (always with coffee or milk, always cut in half, only with your Uncle Steve, etc.)?

Alternatively, do you completely dislike doughnuts? Tell us why!

Personally, the maple doughnuts are my favorite, but I also love Boston Creme doughnuts. I just wasn't in the mood for the chocolate icing today. Sometimes too sweet hurts my teeth! I do not particularly care for cake doughnuts - I like them more fluffy than dense. I don't have any particular traditions, but there is a really good doughnut shop by my parents' house that is independently owned, and they have the best doughnuts. I also got a coffee with mine today, but that was what I had to do to get my free doughnut. Look up doughnut deals in your area today!

There’s a place that makes my favorite dark chocolate doughnuts covered in glaze and/or rolled in coconut and they’re SO GOOD!! They have a lot of fun and unusual flavors, but that one is pretty much my go-to whenever I’m there. Loooove!

I used to really be into the ones filled with frosting, but these days they’re too much for me and have gone from being one of my favorites to possibly the bottom of the list except for when I’m really in the mood. Otherwise I’d just as soon have a plain old fashioned one with or without any kinda glaze. Yummy.

Happy National Doughnut Day, y’all!!

I definitely like mine fluffy and crisp on the outside, rather than caky (although a caky one with really thick icing is good if I'm in the mood). Growing up, I would always get ones filled with raspberry or strawberry jam (and dusted with sugar) if I was at a café with one of my parents so they're probably the ones that have the happiest memories attached. Now I'm very fond of ones filled with vanilla custard; my dad used to do a big food shop on a Friday and bring those back as a treat on occasion.

White chocolate, apple and peanut butter are other favourite fillings, if I'm at a specialty doughnut place.

For National Donut Day, my aunt brought over a dozen doughnuts from our favorite place up here! They make these big potato donuts with this delicious glaze to them. We go there every time we're up here because the café is really cute inside and their donuts are amazing :D They make a ton of different donuts including a bacon maple donut... which I would never try

My favorite kind of donuts are jelly filled donuts with sugar sprinkled on the top of them. The tiny bite sized donuts at Dunkin Donuts are also amazing because they're super easy to eat and don't make much of a mess XD
