I think mine is pretty easy but what the heck. I know I will use my real first name. Alicia.

A (well rhymes with "pa")
Li (rhymes with "key")
cia (sounds like sha)

A-lee-sha..........but spelt alicia. Trust me may look obvious but some people pronounce it differently and it gets rather annoying......

oh, that's complicated, coz it's mixed Latin and German... Um, German and Latin are pronounced nearly the same, but I think it will be difficult to explain to ppl who speak neither of these...

ve I don't know how to explain the e in it, the nearest think could be "eh"... the v is like in "volume".
ne same just with a n.
fi like "fee".
ca nearly like "car", but without the r at the end.

vom I don't know how to describe that. in german it's pronounced like fomm.

Lehn the e is like in ve and ne, just make it longer, put a l in front of it and a n behind it.

Oh, that's all so difficult!!! I hope it's understandable... I think it's easier if you are speaking german!

My name is very simple to pronounce:

Mrs - pronounced misiz, as in "misses"
Sean - like "shorn"
Bean - been, like the vegetable

I've noticed that a lot of you have names that look rather tricky to say. I know that other HOLers are probably never going to say each others names, so we don't really need to know how to pronounce them, but it would be really interesting.

While on this topic, uh, does anyone know how to pronounce 'Beauxbatons' ? *feels quite stupid*

I think the correct way of pronouncing Beauxbatons is "BO-BAH-TOHN" but when speaking English, I tend to keep English pronunciations (i.e., I just pronounce it as "BO-BA-TONS").

As for my name... it shouldn't be too hard no da.

AH-SAH-NOH RAIN (as in "rain, rain, go away") :]

Joelle is pronounced like noel, with a j. And Pendragon is pen, like the kind you writw with, and dragon, like those big scary things that like to burn down stuff.

Joelle Pendragon. Oh! And my full name, (which used to be in my siggy) is Joelle Angelia CanciÃƒÂ³n Pendragon. Angelia is prounounced Ahn-jel-ee-a. Not like Angel-ee-a. And CanciÃƒÂ³n is Spanish for song. It's pronounced kinda like cahn-see-own.

I know that the S isn't pronounced, because you never pronounce the S in plural french words. So it would be Bow- Ba (short "a") -Tawn. No S.

As for Hermione, I used to think it was Her-My-Un, until I read GoF. I never understood how some people got Her-Moyn from it, though...

For Draco, do you pronounce it Draco, like in Jack, or Dray-co? I always said it like Jack. It just sounds nicer /wub.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":wub:" border="0" alt="wub.gif" /> And I always thought it was Loo-shuss, not Loo-see-us. And instead of Roo-bee-us, I thought Hagrid was Roo-bay-us. Whatever. Tomayto tomahto, right?

My HOL full name is really weird. Cho is the easy part, but Ellacius Aphrodeicia is a wee bit trickier.

Ellacius: Eh-lay-shuss

Aphrodeicia: A-frow-day-sha

BO-BAH-TOHN is right. You do not pronounce the 's'.

French to English Translation:
Beaux- 'handsome'
Batons- 'sticks'

Beauxbatons literally means 'handsome sticks'- meaning wands. Remember thier crest? Two wands crossed with gold stars emitting from them?

I imagine JKR chose stick over wands, because:

Baguettes- 'wand'

And Beauxbaguettes sounds like breakfast to me, instead of school. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Although I think my name is ridiculously easy to say, some people seem to have trouble with it.

BRAHN-wehn is the correct pronounciation. The "Bron" part rhymes with "Ron" and the "wen" sounds just like "when." Stress is on the first syllable. This is not the same name as "Branwen" (they sound similar but mean different things,) which is how some people stubbornly pronounce my name.

Side note: If you choose to call me a nickname, please use "Bron" or some variation, not "Bro."
