HOL Hogsmeade

Hogsmeade is an additional part of HOL where students can go to buy books, potion supplies, as well as a wand, and many more magical items. All purchases made in Hogsmeade are paid for with beans. In this guide we will explore the many parts of Hogsmeade one by one. If you follow the link to Hogsmeade (http://hol.org.uk/hogsmeade.php), you will see the map of the entire village. From this map you could go to all the shops in Hogsmeade as well as back to HOL. Please note that not all areas are open just yet. They will be available to you gradually as the people responsible for those areas work on them.

Honeydukes (http://hol.org.uk/honeydukes.php) – This is the Hogsmeade candy shop. You can buy candies and sweets here, including the famous Chocolate Frogs, which, when opened, will give you a Wizard Card to add to your Wizard Card Collection.

Hogsmeade Thrift Shop (http://hol.org.uk/thrift_shop.php) – This is where people go to buy things for a reduced price and sell their own items that they no longer use. What’s stocked in the thrift shop is what other users have put for sale, so the items really vary and can be quite unpredictable. You should come back often to see what new items have been put up for sale if you don’t find what you’re looking for on your first visit. If you want to sell some of your items, simply switch to the ‘Sell Items’ tab. All prices are fixed.

Flourish & Blotts (http://hol.org.uk/flourish_and_blotts.php) – The book shop. While looking at the books, switch between the category tabs to see all the books available. Once you purchase a book, you can read what it contains.

Hogsmeade Wand Shop (http://hol.org.uk/wand_shop.php) – This is where you go to get a wand. Remember, the wand chooses the wizard! Each wand will have different magical properties and this will influence your dueling skills. In the future, when the dueling club is open, you can use your wand to participate in it.

Hogsmeade Pets Store (http://hol.org.uk/pets_store.php) – You can find your HOL pet(s) in the Pet Store. They sell toads, owls, and cats, and you can pick your perfect pet according to your preference. You can also have more than one pet, but remember that each pet requires you to take care of them and feed them, so it’s advised not to buy, say, half a dozen of them. Reading the pet’s owner manual in the store will help you understand the difference in each type of pet’s needs. You can also change your pet’s name (http://hol.org.uk/pets_rename.php) for a price of 10 beans, if the names provided by the pet store aren’t to your liking. The Pet Store gets restocked every once in a while, so if you can’t find a cat or an owl now, check back later!

Gringotts Bank (http://hol.org.uk/gringotts.php) – The famous wizard bank, where you can store your hard-earned beans in a safe place so they can earn interest. Open your own vault, and you can get 2% interest a week (1 bean for each 50 beans you put in the vault). You can also withdraw your beans, of course, but they require a service fee of 4%. You can collect your interest automatically every time you visit your vault, and the interest will be added to your bean pouch. It’s recommended that you open a vault as soon as you accumulate 50 beans (the minimum deposit), so that you can soon have more!

Dervish and Banges (http://hol.org.uk/dervish_and_banges.php) – The shop where you can buy all your potion needs. They sell potion ingredients and other magical equipments. As of now you can’t utilize the items in this shop just yet, but they should be pretty useful soon!

Hogsmeade Herald (http://hol.org.uk/hogsmeade/index.php) – Here is the headquarters of the Hogsmeade newspaper. You can visit to read the latest news about the wizarding world and HOL Virtual Hogwarts.
