Title - A Good Girl's Guide to Murder
Author- Holly Jackson
Genre - Mystery, Thriller
Series - Part I of III
Trigger Warning - The book contains mentions of bullying, SA, voilence, murder and drug abuse.
Synopsis-
The story follows a school girl, Pippa Fitz-Amobi, who decides to investigate the infamous 5-year-old Andie Bell murder case for her final-year project. Andie was supposedly murdered by her then-current boyfriend, Salil Singh. However, before the police could question him, he committed suicide. Or did he?
Pip is convinced that Sal isn't the actual murderer, and along with Ravi, Sal's younger brother, she is determined to prove his innocence. But there is someone in town who doesn't want her to find out the truth. It won't be long before some drastic steps are taken to stop her.
Personal Opinion-
So this is one of the best books I've read. Before I could go on reading the sequel I thought of re-reading it. The series have become more popular because of its TV adaptation, but the book has been a fan favorite for quite long.
The most captivating element for me is the visuals. The documentation of the investigation, reports, logs, add a touch of personalisation, as if I am the one leading. There are no side-plots that distract or take away from the story. The pacing is fast and the investigation is engaging. The plot unfolds in a way that keeps the suspect a mystery, leaving room for reader speculation. At times though, the protagonist does feel a bit impulsive, but the important thing to remember is that she is still a teenager. The romance plot is also not at all over dominating, keeping it subtle and natural.
Overall, I would recommend everyone to give it a try, specially if you are into investigative thriller as me!
