What are the Quidditch Olympics?

Post by Matilde Rayne » Wed Aug 26, 2015 2:20 am

The Department of Magical Games and Sports is hosting its first annual Quidditch Olympics! Starting next week and ending with the start of Quidditch season in November, each week will be dedicated to one of the Wizarding world’s favorite broomstick games - including Quidditch, Creaothceann, and Aingingein - as well as a few new and exciting games - like Team Seeking and Cascade!

All HOL students and professors, regardless of experience, are welcome to participate! There will be events for everyone - from seasoned Quidditch players to first time fliers - to enjoy! Just choose a country to represent, grab your broom, and head to the field!

There will be two ways for everyone to get in on the action:
  • Show off your flying skills as an athlete!
    • Play IRC versions of each of these broomstick games
    • Each game is different. Some rely on having good trivia knowledge, while others are based on typing speed. Good old fashioned luck may also play a part in many of the games!
    • When possible, we will have multiple matches for each event, split by skill level (ex. pro, semi-pro, non-pro), to keep matches competitive
    • Games will take place in #quidditch
  • Cheer on your country off the field!
    • In addition to the weekly IRC game, there will be an activity posted on the forum
    • Weekly activities include creative projects, discussions, or even puzzles, and will complement that week’s game
Sign-ups for each IRC game will be open approximately one week early. Signing up prior to the matches is not mandatory - you can come to any match or activity without needing to have done anything prior - but we’ll be using sign ups to get an idea of how many people to expect and how things could be split up, so if you know your availability, please do let us know!

We're also offering two HOL awards for our standout participants!

Frequent Flier - participate in at least seven out of ten IRC games
Quidditch Enthusiast - complete at least seven out of ten forum activities

If you need any help getting connected to IRC, feel free to send either Arielle Lemoyne or Matilde Rayne a message. We'd be more than happy to help you out!

You can also find some handy advice on getting started with HOL Quidditch (or with any of the IRC games that will be played) right over here.

Hope to see you on the pitch!
