My name is pretty easy to pronounce...

Wynter (like winter) Lah-oh Blackbird (as in black & bird)

But as from my name on my baptism certificate... Other story ^^

Wynter Lao Shengjiang Hongbaoshi Laakivee-a Qiyuè Blackbird

that is

Wynter Lah-oh Sh-eng-jee-ang Hong-bah-o-shee La-ah-kee-vee-ah Kee-yu-e (e as in era) Blackbird ^^ Woo!! You should earn 10 house points if u're not chinese and can pronounce that.

Shengjiang is my grandmother's name, and it means "ginger". Hongbaoshi is my godmother's name and it means "ruby". Laakivee-a is my veela grandmother's name, and Qiyuè means "july", wich is the month I was born in.

That's how traditional Singaporean-christian names are made: First name, Middle name, Father's mother's name, godmother's name, mother's mother's name, month of birth, and Last Name. It doesn't help that my family has a beggar for long names ^^

LeeAnn, I've always been curious about how to say your last name. Is it pronouced like the plural of the word "even," or is it pronounced like "Evans"?

[random] My RL dorm is called Evans [/random]

My name is pronounced like duu-vah. Long u sound, can't really explain it because it's not English. And Monroe, well, duh.

Rhecious Sacro Phoenix

Like, as if you were saying: precious = rh-ecious but with a "rah" sound to it - then, sah-k-roe = sacro. And of course, Phoenix = fee-ni-ks (or like such)

I pronounce my name rather strangely ... it adds sort of a unique edge to it.

"Seh-SHAHL-ah Deh-LAH-nee"

I hope it wasn't too confusing ... it's about the best I can do, honestly. *slight frown*

i used to say hermione as her-me-own too... i guess it goes with the phonetics i was taught as a little kid (you know.. the vowels ah-eh-ee-oh-oo and all that...)

my name's pretty easy to pronounce:
Anne-ge-lyn Bree-yel

oooh i like saying this name (but i think ive been spelling it wrong):
Sheherazhad ... at least that's how i pronounce it so that's how i spell it... it sounds like this: she-he-ra-zahd.

cool, ne?

My name:
Rowan Blackwood

Spoken:
ROW-AN or ROW-EN
(Depends where you come from and your accent. Either way is fine. And It is NOT Rowena. And it is spelt R-O-W-A-N, NOT R-O-W-E-N. Sorry but I get picky about the spelling. So it is spelt 'ROWAN' as in the tree.)

BLACK-WOOD
(Simple enough to understand.)

I always pronounced Beauxbatons as BOW-BAY-TONNES.
When I first read it, (me and my dyslexic self) I use to say BOW-BAX-TONNES. hehe!

Beauxbatons..is french isnt it?? It means Beautiful Wand.. at Mugglenet its pronounced Bow (as in a hair bow) Bah (as in BAH HUMBUG! LoL) Ton (or was it Tahn??)

Is it Beauxbatons Academy?? Whatever..however u say Academy in french..yes S is silent..unless the next word starts w/ a vowel..the s goes to the beginning of the next word. (err thats how it is when u sing in french.)

A-duh-lay-d (or something like that) and Star (as in the stars in the sky)
the A in Adelaide is the A in Apple.

oi, i pronounced "quidditch" kid-ditch, before i saw the movie. hah. i still say it sometimes; it's hard to drop old habits. *hits head*

hermione i always pronounced right, but only b/c it's the name of a mythological god...or something. don't remember, i was obsessed with greek stuff when i was younger. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> i got voldemort, and animagi, and accio, right, but knuts i thought was 'nuts' too. hahaha. it just...looks like it. like knife is nife, hehe. i've always pronounced it ru-bee-us, heh...

i think i pronounce beauxbatons the same way Breena does, though usually i just say beau-x-batons, so i remember how to spell it. mwahaha.

my name's kind of easy, i guess. Aidan is Eye-dahn, not aa-dahn (a rhyming with hey). it's the 'old' pronounciation, or so i'm told. and Argent's phonetic. are-gent. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

Seychelle, i've always thought your name was phonetic... sey-ch-el. heh.

Relaynie Darcy

Post by Relaynie Darcy »

Someone's already had my middle name, and besides EVERYONE (I'm assuming) knows how to pronounce Galadriel.

Relaynie is pronounced as it is spelled, pretty much. Reh-LAY-knee. Lay as in hay, pay, the month of May. Understand? Cool.

Darcy is pronounced pretty close to its spelling as well, as in DAHR-see. Dar- like in dark, park, lark, hark!! /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> ::cries with laughter::

Anywho . . .

I used to say Her-mee-won in my head, although I knew it was wrong at the time. I had more difficulty with Hagrid. I thought it was pronounced Hag- reed, instead of Hag- rihd. I knew how to pronounce Beauxbatons just because I've heard French words spoken elsewhere. Poor Fleur would hate my pronunciation of her name, though: I can't get the correct sound out so it ends up sounding like Floor.

Incidentally, doesn't Draco Malfoy just have the most delicious name in the world? It's so much fun to say . . . DRAY-coh MAHL-foy. Wonderful stress.

All right, I'm done gushing. Aim tomatoes for the sign on your left, please.

I used to -always- say Her-mee-own, like Krum did. I learned a lot from this thread. I sometimes read the names aloud when I read posts so it's nice to know I'm pronouncing your names right. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I saw the pronounciation page from scholastic before but I didn't know about not pronouncing the s at the end of Beauxbatons.

Anyway, my name's like this: al-SA-yo-nee (kinda like the way you pronounce Hermione). And the last name's simple: Bay as in the body of water./smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
