Dusk Sathien

Post by Dusk Sathien »

My first name - Dusk - is my favourite time of the day/night. I love to just go sit outside and look at the sky - it's a really soothing time for me. As for my last name - well, I just thought it had a nice ring to it. I got it from a random name generator.

Love

I chose Garnet as my first name because she's my favorite female Final Fantasy character. As for my last name, my fiance is into Raymond E. Feist books, and the main character, Pug, is at one point the Duke of Stardock.

Eh, my name is pretty much a combination of some of my favorite names.

Pixa is a name I made up for a character based on my best friend for a story I was writing a few years ago.

Jade is for one of my all-time favorite names for wee lasses. :-P

And Rhys is for Rhys Ifans, one of my favorite actors ever. (Notting Hill, Little Nicky)

I simply combined Jade and Rhys. Jaderhys. Pronounced 'Jay-deh-reese'. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Lucinda Sobek

Post by Lucinda Sobek »

Well i desided first that my student persona would be half blood, they always have interesting stories to tell as theres usually family issues and what not, even though there wont be much rp here i still like to know these things ^^.

So i thought her father would be a pure blood so i had to give her a pure blood style last name which would suit a wizarding family. Sobek is the Egyptian god of Nile crocodiles an i liked it as a sirname, it relates to reptiles and Slythrin house is always assosiated with pure blood familys and their symbol is a serpant...it just fitted.

Lucinda is just a name that i like and i have always thought of as a good witch name.
I also think its quite a studious name, i dont really know why but since i am usally sorted into Ravenclaw i thought it was appropriate.

Before joining HOL, I wanted to make sure my name was unique.

Euphoria (you-FOR-ee-aah), my first name, was decided quickly. Euphoria, by definition, means a feeling of great happiness or joy. I wanted a name which did not only need the voice to pronounce, but also a great amount of breath. I believe this is a name that should be said softly because it is quite fragile. ^^

Skeffington (SKEF-ee-ng-tin), my last name, took a longer while to find. I wanted a last name that belonged to Great Britain, so I searched a few websites and found this name to blend nicely with my first name. Mainly I wanted a last name that began with a consenant (whereas my first name begins with a vowel) so that my entire name would not sound like a mere feather falling to the ground, but with a bit of strength at the end to keep it sturdy.
Arcam Magus

Post by Arcam Magus »

Arcam is an anagram of my first name and middle initial, and "Magus" is both a word for "Wizard" (I like wizards) and the title of one of my favourite books (The Magus, by John Fowles).
Adriana Knight

Post by Adriana Knight »

It took me forever to decide on my name. I want something likeable (for me), yet not too outstanding. I love names that begin with 'A' - Adrienne, Alicia, Alisha, Alexia and so on - for girls, so I decided I had to choose one of them. In the end, I chose Adriana, although it wasn't really a choice. I listed my top 5 names, that I couldn't choose between, because i loved them all (Alicia, Alexia, Adrienne, Leah, Adriana - I'd already cut about 20 names from the list at this point. [censored by McNish] baby name books!), and I just closed my eyes and pointed!

As for Knight, I don't know. I love the last name Moreno, but I didn't want to use it for a change. I wanted a name that wasn't two words stuck together, or made up or whatever, but was heard of in society. I considered Haron, my mums maiden name, but in the end i chose Knight. For two major reasons - First, I love medieval history, and most of the books I love reading are set in a medieval era, and second I was listening to the Beverly Knight CD. And thats the meaning behind my name. Of course, originally it was going to be something French or Italian (I love the languages!), bur I changed my mind when I realised the closest I'd get was a translation.
Juniper Raynbrown

Post by Juniper Raynbrown »

My last name, Raynbrown, is the name of a knight of King Arthur's round table, and,
well...Juniper is a kind of tree (obviously...). The juniper tree is representative of "protection," which goes along with my last name, I suppose...

I did one of those 'What is your Harry Potter name?' things and Elizabeth Watson came out but I liked Lizzie better. Thus Lizzie Watson was born. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Yi-Ling Zhang

Yi-Ling is my real Chinese name, though it can also be spelt like I-Lin, etc. xD Well, my last name is Chang, but I didn't want the same last name as a HP character, so I altered it alittle. =D

*Laughes out loud* I'm so lazy! I picked it because it's my name, or well, was my name before I got married. Margaret "Maggi" Kade Arceneaux, that's me. By the way, anyone who reads my bio in the Gryffindor common room should know that most of my family members names have been changed, because I didn't ask them permission to use they're real names.

Kara Elric

Post by Kara Elric »

My name on HOL comes from a band, Kara's Flowers. They're the band that came before Maroon 5 did, when Maroon 5 was only 4 xP. Kara's Flowers had a different sound than Maroon 5, and were a pretty good band, and I loved their music. But anyway, I liked the name Kara, and kept with it.

Elric comes from a show I've been addicted to lately; an anime called Fullmetal Alchemist ^^;. I've been drawing a lot of parallels for the sake of my amusement between it and Harry Potter, so, I decided to tag the last name of the title character from that show onto my own HOL character name, due to my lack of originality and inability to decide a surname for myself.

Because I dislike my own real-life name, no matter how many times my parents and grandparents say it's pretty ^^;.
Morton Ryder

Morton Rainey *grins evily*

To start off, I'm a huge Johnny Depp fan, this guy is beyond cool. And I love Secret Window. Johnny'd character in secret window's name is 'Morton Rainey'. He's a author (I write too), he lives in a cabin in the woods far away from people (my dream! /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />), and he basically acts just like me! So when it came time to choose a name for HOL, I decided on Morton (Mort for short--hey, that rhymes! /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> ) Shooter Rainey.

Amanda Mancini

Post by Amanda Mancini »

There are just so many amazingly put together names in the HP books, where the meaning of their names subtley give so much information about their background and character.

I know people in HOL also love this and have chosen all sorts of fantastic names for themselves, be them in latin or puns or combinations of words...

I just wanted something simple that wouldn't seem to perposterous. This name is also my fanfiction penname, which was the main reason I chose it (in case someone recognised it.) Both Amanda and Mancini are very common as well, and have absolutely no connection to the Harry Potter books, making it original.

Amanda, apparently, means "loveable"
Mancini, curiously, can be roughly translated from Italian to "hands cut off". A petty criminal ancestor, perhaps?

My HOL name is the name of the character based on me in my Harry Potter fan fiction, which is (Twistedly) Harry's lost twin. (Don't ask) It was basically a big hit to all of my friends, so I'm on my last one, which my friends are pushing me to finish.

Actually, I simply made my name up! Vrinidet is not a real name, and, to my knowledge, Brinstrum is a non-existent surname. As I was registering for HOL, the name simply popped into my mind. It sounded descent, so I used it! I have actually grown rather fond of it, myself..
