Today is the birthday of one of the most well known authors of fairy tales in the world.
Most of us have read at least some of the fairytales he was written, or watched movies made based on them.

They are so ingrained in culture that many people might not even realize they know them. But if you've ever read or watched movie adaptations of The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, The Little Match Girl, The Emperor's New Clothes or The Snow Queen and many more, then you know a fairytale by Hans Christian Anderson.
My favourite is probably The Nightingale.

But which ones do you know and do you have a favourite? And why do you like that one in particular?

I love the Little Match Girl, probably because it was the first of his stories I’ve read. Also, it was the one that the most deeply resonated with me. It’s a beautiful story.

The Ugly Duckling is one of my favorites.
The Emperor's New Clothes is one with a strong message, and at the same time funny.
Hans Christian Andersen has a way of showcasing so many emotions through his stories so subtly, that they easily pass off in the garb of children's books. But as we grow up we are hit full on the face with a realisation that all those fairy tales by this particular author that we read in our childhood, had so much more depth to it.
