\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ Welcome to Summer Quidditch League 2019 \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/

Welcome to our annual Summer Quidditch League activities.

This year's theme will be a RACE FOR THE QUODS! Our format this year is changed. There will be no 'fixed' teams for the summer; team games will be true pickups (this way, even if your 'team' is creamed one week in an IRC game, 'there's always next time' is as true as it is in regular pickups). We're planning that activities start in the beginning of July and last through August. Each and every activity will earn Quods for participants (and referees, if needed). These Quods will be converted into Beans at the end of the Activity. Depending on how many Quods you earn, you may even receive one of the highly coveted SQL 2019 awards. We will have Quaffle, IRC Games, Snitch and activities in the HOL Forum to completely bewilder and befuddle the participants!

More specifically -
- Each week will see at least two activities in the HOL forum - some sort of puzzle and a creative task or two.
- Each weekend, on Saturday at 9 pm HOL (or at the time and date listed as an alternative date when the schedule is posted), we will have an IRC activity. We'll alternate between IRC broom games and Quaffle on the weekends.
- And there will be Snitches involved as well!
- As long as there remain Quods to be claimed, people are welcome to join the race!

Quaffle specifics
- If you show up to play Quaffle, or are a Quaffle ref, you earn 10 Quods. (If a ref, Quods are earned when the log is sent in.)
-If you are on the winning team for a Quaffle game, you will earn 20 Quods instead of 10.
-The top few Quidditch players will NOT be eligible to play Quaffle.
- The regular Quidditch set will have a question set which mixes the regular Quidditch questions with "type this answer" prompts. Also, if no one gets an answer after 15 seconds, we reveal the answer and players have an additional 15 seconds to try.
-The length of Quaffle match will be 3 periods of 15 minutes like last year, with a 3 minute break between each playing period.

Snitch specifics
- For each game you play or ref, you earn 10 Quods. (If a ref, Quods are earned when the log is sent in.)
- Snitch play will be restricted to players who haven't caught a snitch either in an official game or in the playoffs of an official (QB, SQL, or both) tournament; roughly, this is 'beginner and lower intermediate' players
- If < 5 people sign up, we will do round robin; if 6-8 sign up we will have group play, semifinals, and finals.
- The question set will be the short/Aingingein set (answers all 3 words or less)
- In the beginning of the tournament (first half if round robin; group phase if playoff), we will do PRE-SOLVED puzzles (the puzzle will be given as a forum activity in the previous week, so no time needs to be spent solving)
- The end of the tournament (second half if round robin; playoff rounds otherwise) will be EASY puzzles (with a slight increase in difficulty from semifinals to finals)
- We will give bonus Quods for doing well in the tournament as follows:
25 Quods for first place
10 Quods for second place
5 Quods for making the semifinals (if we have playoffs)
- Signups start June 23 (24th HOL time) after pickups and end on Monday, June 1 (11:59 PM HOL); matches begin 7/8 +/- a few days and end in mid-late August.

NOTE: If more experienced players want to play Snitch this summer, we can match them up with each other separately! If this happens, you too will earn Quods (10 for playing and another 10 for winning)!

IRC activities
-The remaining regular IRC meetings (trying for 1 a week or so, counting Quaffle) will work like normal pickup games, beginning with an individual free-for-all (Creaothceann, Xany, Monarch) and ending with a team game with randomly chosen teams as in Quaffle.
-For the individual games, the top few players are ineligible to play, just like in Quaffle, but for the team games, everyone who wants to can play for Quods is encouraged to show up.
-Quods are awarded as follows:
5 Quods for participation in the individual activities on any given day
5 Quods for participation in the team activities on any given day
5/3/1 Quods for 1st/2nd/3rd place in a given individual activity (there will likely be two rounds per meeting)
5 Quods for winning a given team activity (there will likely be two rounds per meeting)

Forum activities
- Completion of each Forum activity earns 10 Quods.
- Forum activities will include logic puzzles each week -- some of them will have the regular 4x5 format of House Snitch games, others might be 3x3 or 4x4. (See above, snitch activity.)
- Forum activities will have one or two other kinds of puzzles and/or creative tasks - so there will be 2 - 3 forum activities per week to look forward to!

Remember - you do not have to sign up to participate in SQL 2019!

The only thing which needed sign-ups was for the Snitch Tournament (and those sign-ups are closed now).

You may do any and all of the Forum Activities -- they are all due August 25 (Sunday) - 11:59 PM HOL time.

You may participate in any and all of the IRC Activities which are still to come! (There just happens to be one tomorrow - Sunday - July 14th 9 pm HOL time.) You do not have to know how to play Quidditch to join in the fun. Jump in and play! :)

Also -- you can earn a lovely Award for your efforts. Read the post above to find out about Awards!

There is one more Quaffle IRC activity remaining -- it takes place tomorrow, August 17. It starts 9 pm HOL (so get there a bit ahead of that so teams can be sorted out). Where? #quidditch.

If you want to earn an Award (see above), you need to have Quods from both Forum activities and IRC activities. If you have not done any IRC activity yet, but have a bunch of Forum Activities, this is your last chance to gain that coveted and quite splendid award!

You do NOT have to be on a Quidditch team or know how to play regular Quidditch to participate in Quaffle play. Click Quaffle Gameplay for Summer 2019 to learn more!
