Tiana Moore

Post by Tiana Moore »

My name. Well...
In my favorite book series, my favorite character's name is Tiana Moore. Thus, my name is Tiana Moore. But I also liked the fact that is sounds so exotic and it's not too common.

I chose Vera because its a shorter version of my RL first name, and Hague because I like how it sounds and because it's German, and I'm half-German. My HOL middle name is Orrysus(made that up), so there you have it, Vera Orrysus Hague.
It's a good thing I didn't use my RL name, because my last name is so long you couldn't fit it on the back of a football jersey!

Astolate Infanite

Post by Astolate Infanite »

I came across the poem "The Lady of Shalott" by Lord Alfred Tennyson quite a few years back, and while reading one person's review of it they talked of Lady Elaine of Astolate and how she fell unrequitedly in love with Sir Lancelot. Another poem "Lancelot and Elaine" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson talked of Elaine, the lily maid of Astolate (or Astolat) either way Astolate just kind of jumped out at me and at the time I was looking for a name for an RPG character that was unusual and uncommon. Astolate seemed just perfect and I'm not too sure how I got the last name, Infanite, I think I just liked the way the two flowed together. Astolate lives on through several different RPGs and I'm happy to know that I'm the only one out there. /happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />

My name? Well it's not really an interesting story, but I'll tell you anyways. Hemolele (pronounced Hay-Mo-Lay-Lay or He-Mo-Lay-Lay, which ever is easier for you) is hawaiian for pure. Now I am a quarter Hawaiian, though I look more than that, and so I wanted a UNIQUE name that nobody else would have.

So I looked in a Hawaiian dictionary that my dad has and I found "Hemolele = Pure" and I was like "THAT IS MY NAME!". And Hurley is a sports (surfing) name brand that I am OBSESSED with. Not to mention that HURLEY is my RL last name. *g*

So I said, "I shall name myself Hemolele Hurley". And here I am. In any online place that I'm apart of I call myself Hemolele Hurley.

It's like I've created a whole new person, my full online name is Hemolele Nicola Hurley. Nicola is the online name of my best friend and I put that in the middle and was like "I like it." So it just stuck with me!

And that is the origin of my HOL name: Hemolele Nicola Hurley. Oh, and because Hemolele is SUCH a long name that is kinda hard to pronounce my nickname is Hemo, which all of my friends call me.

Tarma shena Tale'sedrin, Shin'a'in nomad and Kal'enedral ("Swordsworm" to outClansfolk), has always been one of my heroines, and I wanted to name a horse after her, but when Kater had her foal, the filly received the name 'Kethry' (after Kethryveris of House Pheregrul, White Winds mage) because it suited her better. So, when asked for to create a name for HOL, I immediately thought of 'Tarma'.

As for a last name, Black was an obvious choice, because 1) I wear a lot of black and 2) because of Sirius.

When I was about to sign up for HOL, I was writing a fanfic about Sirius' childhood, and as it was before OotP, I gave him a little sister called Capella. I really liked her character, so when I signed up, I chose that name as my first name.
Silkistija is a mix of Silkis and Tija, two characters from two different books by Christian Jacq (not very likeable, any of the characters, but I liked the names). That's at least what I thought. Later I found out that I'd been reading Tija wrong all the time, and that it was actually Tjia, but at that time I had already been using Silkistija for a long time, and I like that better than Silkistjia anyway.

I had intended to use a name from a list I keep of names I like, but I was at work and my mind went completely blank when I was signing up.

Fogg came first: I was looking at a list of British surnames and that one leapt out at me.

Mysty - That just popped into my head when I was thinking of first names that would go with Fogg (a misty fog... /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> ). I had to spell it with two y's to use it for a hotmail account.

Well my name doesn't have much of a story, but here goes /happy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="^_^" border="0" alt="happy.gif" />.

I write a bunch of fanfiction in my spare time (which isn't all that much), and at one point I needed to introduce a new character. I didn't want to just make one up out of the blue, so I took Moon from the year Harry was sorted.
I needed a first name for her, so I just gave her the name Evelyn.
Eve happened to be the name I was using for french class at the moment (I switch names a lot).
I never published this fic, it exists on my computer, stored away... waiting to be finished.
Anyway... when I came upon HOL and wanted to register I was at a complete blank for names. I was working on the fic at that time so I used Evelyn Moon because I had started to really like that name.
Along the way I've picked up middle names that I've really liked. I started out with Rinai as a middle name. I found it on a site when I was doing a name meaning project, and loved it.
Later I found Arlette. It sounded beautiful and meant an oath in Celtic.
Most recently I added Solange, a nick name used by one of my best friends. It means sun goddess. I thought it was funny how it contradicted my last name, Moon.
And there you have it.... the rather boring history of the name Evelyn Rinai Arlette Solange Moon.

I wanted an Irish name and I found Eveny (Ev-O-Nee) though the meaning of the name has been lost, it's unusual and I think it's absolutely lovely. Blackrose because I love blackroses and I have a tattoo of a blackrose so I thought that would be good.

Aww! What a fun topic!!

Wynter Blackbird is a name that popped in my head about a year and a half ago, when I was away from home and living on campus in Northern Quebec. I was watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and liked the name Willow, and my mind just wandered from there to Raven, and then Wynter popped in my head... And I tought Wynter Raven sounded weird, so Raven became Blackbird. I started writting a story with Wynter as its main character but it never followed out.

When I joined HOL about a year later and had to think of a name, Wynter Blackbird just popped back out of nowhere so I decided the name was cool and worth not being left behind; so it became my HOL name /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I wanted a middle name too so I tought for a bit, and I wanted something short and reminiscent of my chinese ethnicity, so I tought of Lao, which matched pretty well with the other two! Plus, Lao means 'old' in chinese, and in Singapore when it is given as a name, it is said that the person wearing it will live a long life.

So there you go, Wynter Lao Blackbird /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Well my characters full name is Liarna Charlotte Quinn.

I can remember reading the name Liarna somewhere and thinking 'oh i love that name!' so i chose to use it as my charries name.

Charlotte is the name of my best friend who died in February, and i just love her name and i thought it'd be a tribute to her, although i dont need it to remember her by...

And Quinn is the last name of my favourite character from one of my fav tv shows! But i'm not saying who it is!

19 pages of posts later and I *still* haven't posted in this one until now. Wow. Scary, really.

Let's see:

I chose Anya in honour of Anya from Buffy the Vampire Slayer (considering I teach the Pop Culture class..)...I decided on Anya rather than Anyanka because I like Anya as a human. She's truly flawed, yet always speaks her mind. And, she has some of the best lines in the series, I think.

I chose Chutney...because...er...er.

Well, frankly, the word had been stuck in my head for some time. I adore Indian food. Chutney is a kind of indian dip/appetizer that you can eat on crackers, bread, or on the side. Thanks to Tweedy, I can now make a killer onion/tomato chutney.

About a month after I picked my name, I realized why the word "chutney" had been stuck in my head. You see, "Legally Blonde" had been playing nonstop on cable. The daughter's name (who also plays Velma in the Scooby Doo movies) was CHUTNEY.

Pretty funny, I think.

Well....
I got Fidget because in RL it's one of my many nicknames... I get it because I'm always dancing or 'fidgeting'(Thanks to Slim for that one!) my middle name is Juliet. I got this because I love the play Romeo and Juliet. My last name came because I love Sirius Black. So my name is Fidget Juliet Black. Juliet Fidget Black is good too... Wow, I just thought of that, just now.... hmmm. demented mind I have /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Not that interesting... but hey, thats they way it happened!

Well, I chose my name rather fast..
Mia has a Latin origin, which I believe is a commonly used variant of María, and means wished-for child; rebellion.
Mayfair (or Mayfaire) is the surname Anne Rice's powerful Witches had, and seeing as I am a big fan of her novels and I loved her character Rowan, I decided to 'insert' myself in the Mayfair family as well. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
