Well, my name is so hard to say (J/K)

Well to be the big smartypants I am I'm going to tell you guys how to say my name---

Bell- (As in Ding-dong)
a (As in sound of the letter 'a')

Biz (Just pretend your a bee from a different country then say 'Buzz' but replace the 'u' for a 'i' and the 'zz' with 'ss')
kit (as in First aid 'kit')
-also you can say the word Biscuit as in mmmmm yum choc-chip Cookie!

Bell-a Biss-kit

Also simple...

Irix like the flower iris, with "ks" instead of "s" (eye - reeks)

Nuit like the French word nuit - not sure how to write the transcription - something like nwee

well i pronounce it
Na (rhymes with la)
g (not like the g in grand...u know like the j in ja)
ini (like ee-nee)
so in the end it's na-jee-nee but u'd have to ask JKR if that's right. maybe it's actually na-gee-nee

and black is just black, like the color.

ok... I never heard my name- I just read it (it's not a common one here).
But I pronounce it like this:

Ta: like pa, ma etc.
mi: me(the word)
ca: ka, pa, ma etc.
(For Tammy just miss the 'ka')

Se: like the ce in cent(the coin)
dai: d and I (like the word)

I stress the mi in Tamica and the dai in Sedai /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Actually, according to JKR it's na-GEE-nee : see http://www.theblanchards.com/hp/n.html

Since my name is foreign, it's kinda hard to pronounce. People who I even tell my name to still sometimes can't get it.

It's in between Rah-nah and Reh-nah... you guys figure it out

I like this thread, learned something new here, that's for sure....
I don't really care how people pronounce my name. After all, the possibility that I'll ever hear you say it is very small..... /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> But I suppose it won't hurt to let you know how I say it... /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Ze - rah (ze rhymes with the, and rah is like the LA in laugh)
Man - DRAG - or - an (each is a word in itself I guess.... The pressure is on the drag part)

lol, I like this thread a lot. I have even seen a few places where I would have asked for clarification due to the gepgraphic pronunciation of the sound being provided as an example (eg j in ja - is it like ya or j in Jerry? is the pronounced "thuh", or "thee"?)

I have been asked a few times how to pronounce my first name, so here it is (though there are a few similar variations that I cannot often distinguish between):

Delenne:
Duh - like the North American use "well, duh"
or Deh - as in heh like laughing or more like the french deux
Lenne - Len the name, the "e" is silent

And there you have it, Delenne

If you can't pronounce Potter, I think you've stopped into the wrong web site. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Al -- as in, well, al in albert... /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />
SA -- as in satin (accent here)
yo -- as in yodel
nee -- as in needle

hope that helps /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

here's mine:
Cel - Rhymes with shell, with a hard "c" sound, like a "k" in Kelly
e - not sure how to put this one into words.....kinda like and "eh" sound
born - as in "hey look at that giraffe that was just born!"

Dumbledore should be self explainatory /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> I know lots of people pronounce it differently in their heads, so I'll leave it to personal preference!
Athena O'Neal

Post by Athena O'Neal »

That's actually a preety interesting post... Anyway it's time to add my reply...
Athena is pronounced «A-thi-na». It's easy, you see. The accent is on «na»
O'Neal is pronounced «O' (exactly like you pronounce this letter on the alphabet)- Nil»
You see, my name is really name to pronounce. But noone can prononce my real name: Angeliki. Everyone accents «li» but the in right pronounciation the «ki» is accented... Anyway, online keep calling me Athena but in real life I would prefer «Angela» or my name correctly pronounciated.

*Margarett prono:

Mar: mor (not mar)
