It has been written, debated and argued that there are thirteen different kinds of mystery stories. These are: Cozy, Amateur Sleuth, Professional Sleuth, Police Procedural, Legal/Medical, Suspense, Romantic Suspense, Historical, Mixed Genre, Private Eye, Noir, Crime and Caper. Some people want to lump some categories together, and others want to come up with more, but ... generally speaking, these 13 usually survive as independent categories.

Choose one of the categories and tell us about it! Who are some of the people who have written stories which might fit into that category and what books did they write? Did the authors confine themselves to just that one category or did they have a wider range of story matter?

OR

Choose one of the categories and tell us what the common components of that story is, in order that it fit into that category.
