Inkheart: Chapters 43-59

Post by Prof. Tarma Amelia Black »

The last chapters of Inkheart (43-59) will be discussed in this thread, as well as the overall book itself.

Now that we're drawing to the end of the book, which struck you more, the characters or the plot itself? Was there anything that stood out for you? What did you think of the overall book?

Please remember to include spoiler tags where necessary.

What a book. What a book!

I am so glad it was recommended! I went to GoodReads about it and find that it is one of those books which either get 1-2 stars or 4-5 stars. It's not a middle-of-the-road book.

So, gulping it down and being completely IN that world. Imagine a person can read people, items, anything from one world into another. Just by reading it out loud. Of course, you have to have a gift for it ... and it appears that this gift in hereditary. So you have to be careful what you read. Oh, and also, if something comes into your world from the book, something goes out of your world into the book.

Meggie and Fenoglio, figuring out the 'how to' of reading something into and out of stories. How to write something with a different ending (like for the tin soldier). So many things to be aware of! That was funny and sort of a relief from the sheer nastiness of some of the other characters and what they do.

Elinor attempting to help -- and calling in the wrong kind of help. Or rather, ending up helping Capricorn instead of her family. Basta being caught ... and Flatnose refusing to help him. Tinkerbell! OH MY. How funny. Farid being a hero. Dustfinger being a (semi)hero.

AND I LOVED THAT MO finished reading the 'story' as written by Fenoglio, instead of Meggie reading the whole thing (and writing part of it as she reads even). YES. That is good. That is different from the movie. And it is very very good. Dustfinger ... goes off with Farid. And everyone else (almost) all end up living at Elinor's .. for the nonce.

I enjoyed the story a lot more than I thought I would. My previous time of reading it, I had just watched the movie and the plot was so different from one to the other and I wanted to 'read' the movie so basically put Inkheart aside. Nope! But now -- yes. I'm glad I've read it and that I have a copy of my own to read and re-read.
