Pluto - Mythology

Post by Prof. Maxim Trevelyan »

Both Pluto and his mythic counterpart, Hades, share the distinction of being Lord of the Underworld. This is quite a rich domain full of hidden treasures (all things hidden in the psyche and Earth). A story of Pluto and Proserpina in Roman myth involves Venus sending her son Amor to shoot a love arrow at Pluto, and opening his heart to love. Just as Pluto came out of the volcano Etna riding four black horses, he saw Proserpina playing with nymphs at the fountain of Arethusa near Etna. Pluto carried off Proserpina so he could marry her and live together in Hades. Proserpina became the Queen of the Underworld.

It is said that Proserpina spending a chunk of the year in the underworld is the reason we have seasons. What other mythical explanation do you think there could be? Write about another reason (magical or mythical) we have seasons in 80 words or more. You can do that in any written form, but please abide by HOL rules.

How we have seasons is when the planets move, it changes or makes changes between seasons. So all of the planets make different temperature. How I learned this was one day some astronauts went up in space and tried putting weight on earth from other planets and it changed the seasons' order. So it was like summer there but it turned to spring and then it was fall and then it was winter. Then they tried having people put lights on the other planet and it changed the temperatures and the climate. Isn’t that awesome?
