Earth - Popular Culture

Post by Prof. Maxim Trevelyan »

Seven Wonders of the Ancient World is a list of remarkable constructions of classical antiquity that have given us inspiration for many publications and media in popular culture. These Wonders are the Great Pyramid of Giza, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Temple of Artemis, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, Colossus of Rhodes, and the Lighthouse of Alexandria. With time, many other “Wonders of X” lists have been popping up, each recounting what they think are the seven wonders of its theme. Some of these examples are New Seven Wonders of the World, Wonders of Nature, of the Solar System and I could go on.

As you can see, there are many Wonders of the World on our planet, some more famous and some less. Take a photo of something that you would consider a Wonder of the World. It can be anything from an interesting rock, running river, a nice building, perhaps a collection of books, anything that makes you wonder at its beauty. Include a sentence or two of the reason behind your pick. Alternatively, you can describe it in 80 words or more. Be mindful of HOL rules and that everything is of your own creation.

Post your Wonders of Earth below (keep it 600x600 or less) by May 31st 11:59 pm HOL time to get 15 Hoots and 50 beans.

This is the inside of an old bus left in a park to study erosion. I thought it was very interesting, both in structure and purpose.

I love architecture, especially older structures. This old canal almost looks like a portal to another land.
