An Artist's Guide to Character Development

Post by Prof. Sky Alton »

Over on Quill and Ink we’re looking at character development. While nothing can replace writing for getting to know a new character, there are certain art based techniques you can use to immerse yourself further in their head. If you’re a visual learner, you might choose to do some of these prompts before committing any words to paper. Even if you’re not, branching out into other mediums can be a great way to motivate you or see you through a thorny patch of writers block.
Follow these prompts to get to know your character better:

Part 1: The Sketch
Part 2: Characterful Collage
Part 3: Timeline
Part 4: Their Roots
Part 5: Self on the shelf
