Just as most of us enjoy reading about the fictional worlds some of our favourite characters inhabit, it's likely that these characters in turn pick up a book from time to time -- whether for a bit of "light reading" or in search of critical knowledge to help them in their quests, be it Cimorene, Elizabeth Bennet or even Hermione Granger.

This month we'd like you to design a bookmark that your favourite fictional character might use. Keep in mind the setting they're from and any of the things they would likely want their bookmarks to depict.

Your work needs to be original, taking something off the internet and claiming it as your own is plagiarism. Remember to keep everything HOL appropriate, adhering to all HOL rules, and please keep your submissions 600x600 pixels or smaller. Please also include a short description of your image.

You'll earn 20 beans for completing this prompt as well as it counting towards the chance to snag our shiny Ink Splatters Award.

There is no deadline as such for these prompts but if you’d like it to count towards your chance of earning the award for a specific year, we’ll need it by the end of that school year. This is a bookmark that would be used by Mark Watney, a protagonist of Andy Weir's novel The Martian. Its background is completely black to symbolize the darkness and vastness of space. There is a quote by Plato in the middle of the bookmark written in white text: "Books give a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything."

Upper left corner and bottom right have a fancy short orange line to it. On the bottom of the bookmark is an astronaut, colored white which is waving and above him and slightly to the left, an orange spaceship. Above the text, in the right upper corner is a red planet, Mars, and a sort of sci-fi teal cross-hairs aimed at it.

This is a bookmark that Zoe Faust, from The Accidental Alchemist by Gigi Pandian, would likely use. She runs an online store called Elixir, which sells alchemical texts and apparatus. Though bookmarks don’t form part of her online orders, I’ve pretended as if they do.

The bookmark is vertical has a black background (with a slight red hue). On the top and bottom is an inner thin white stripe and outer thick red stripe. These colours resemble alchemy. In the middle of the bookmark, on its side, is the Elixir logo (invented) with an illustration of a white flask with red bubbling liquid followed by the name Elixir in a display font that has a slight calligraphy feel.
