The Quill and Ink section is centred around writing, and topics can range from writing techniques and/or styles, where you find your inspiration, authors you hope to emulate, NaNoWriMo (and variations thereof) to your favourite stories to write — and anything and everything in between!
As well as discussions, we offer you the chance to whip out your quils and get writing. Here you will find our library of writing prompts, our exciting Word Crawls and three dedicated Sharing Spaces for you to post your original stories, fan fiction and poetry. If you participate in at least seven of them over the course of the year, you’ll get a shiny Quill and Ink Award. You'll also receive 20 beans per completed prompt and crawl. Check out the Prompts Index for more information.
We'll be periodically adding new prompts and there are plenty to dive into from previous years. You can also revisit a prompt you've already done, providing you have a fresh idea and you haven't submitted to it yet this school year.
Feel free to come up with your own prompts to help inspire others — and post your own discussions too!
Please keep anything you do share HOL-appropriate (if you're unsure, ask a Book Club staffer to glance over it for you before posting!). It is always a good idea to proof read your post for spelling and grammatical errors too as they can make it difficult for people to enjoy what you've created.
Even if you don’t write much, you’re still more than welcome to join in and give it a try. As Mark Twain puts it, “Writing is easy. All you have to do is cross out the wrong words”.
