Book Review - Christmas in the Big House, Christmas in the Quarters

Post by Hannah Lovegood »

Book #3
Title: Christmas in the Big House, Christmas in the Quarters
Author: Patricia C. McKissack & Frederick L. McKissack
Genre: Historical fiction (children's)

I liked that the book was separated between the Big House and the Quarters. I liked that it was illustrated.

It was Christmas time and everyone was impatient. All the slaves were having to work extra hard because it was Christmas time and they needed to get everything ready. Relatives and friends came to visit from different plantations. Some of the slaves got passes so they could see their family and friends on other plantations. Everybody got to see each other. That was the one time of the year that the slaves could enjoy themselves and relax. After Christmas, there was New Year's that everyone enjoyed. After that, it was slave selling time and the slaves were very upset about that.
