The Adventures of Robin Hood - Review

Post by Emerald Wolvenhowl »

Title: The Adventures of Robin Hood
Author: Roger Lancelyn Green
Genre: Adventure fiction
Age group: 9-11 ( though the themes of violence and death are present) and upwards
Prompt: Set in the forest throughout most of the book.

Please don't let the age range of this book put you off. It is a great read for teens and adults too.

As the title suggests, this book contains adventures but it isn't necessarily the sort of book that enables the reader to pick and choose a chapter to read at random. It all makes more sense if each chapter is read in the correct order.

Since each chapter is a tale of each adventure that Robin has, giving in- depth detail of what happens here is beyond the scope of this review. However, what I can tell you is that the tales start right from Robins birth and reveal how he became associated with Sherwood forest, how and why he became outlawed, how his closest men came to join him and the challenges he participated in.

For centuries there have been many ballad's, tales and poems of Robin Hood. Thanks to the author, those texts have been gathered and re- told while snippets of unabridged verses from those old ballads and poems make an appearance at the start of each chapter, giving the reader a small glimpse of the English language of the past
