Spotlighted Books: World-Building

Post by Prof. Sky Alton »

Welcome to our very first collection of Spotlighted Books. Intended as a more relaxed replacement for our monthly book discussions, these are a carefully chosen set of suggested reads. This time, we’re focusing on world-building: each of these books takes a very different approach to it. Flip through them at your own pace and let us know what you thought by responding to the discussion prompts provided or with observations or questions of your own.

Spotlighted Books:

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Caroll
  • Join Alice and step into 2 of the most enduring fantasy lands in western literature
The Girl of Ink and Stars by Kiran Millwood Hargrave
  • A fantasy adventure with a foundation of maps and uncharted territory.
The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau
  • A dystopic sci-fi where the world is grinding to a halt
Poison by Chris Wooding
  • A dark and twisted fairytale with a very self-aware approach to world-building.
