Title of the book: A Monster Calls
Author: Patrick Ness
Genres: Young Adult
Short summary of the story: Conor wakes up discovering a monster outside his house in the shape of the Yew tree out back. This monster wants to tell him stories. Conor has another monster from his nightmare that terrifies him even more, and he struggles to see exactly what this particular monster wants with him.
Good points / bad points: No bad points of this book at all. I cried at the end which is often rare for me. This book studies the stages of grief and how to deal with loss. Beautifully written with powerful life messages that spoke to me strongly. Dealing with recent loss myself and the loss of my brother a few years back, it definitely brought up some of my own nightmares and understanding. Highly recommended read.
