Title: Guards Guards
Author: Terry Pratchett
Genre: Fantasy
Series: Discworld (8)
Summary:
The story takes place in the Discworld univers, more specifically in the city of Ankh-Morpork, just like the last book I read, and indeed this is the first book that focuses on the City Watch. Terry Pratchett's Discworld series is parted into multiple smaller series, one of which focuses on the character Death, one focuses on a wizard, one focuses on the City Watch, etc. But I have fallen in love with the City Watch, so that's why I went back and read the first City Watch book, and not all the way back and read the first Discworld book.
In Guards Guards we meet Samuel Vimes in a rather different circumstance than in the Night Watch book. He is much younger and so is the City Watch. It is funny to see the differences in the way the organisation runs in the two books. It very clearly shows that things have happened and changed in the years that have passed between the two.
The book deals with secret societies, dragons, dwarves and what makes a king. I really enjoyed it, and will definitely continue to read these books.
