2016 Reading Challenge

Post by Prof. Amy Lupin »

Despite being an avid reader, I don’t usually do reading challenges, but this year I've decided to give it a go in the hopes of branching out and reading some of the books that I probably normally wouldn't read.

By the end of this year, I'm hoping to have read the following:
  • A book that’s becoming a movie this year
  • A book with a colour in the title
  • A classic from the 20th century
  • A book recommended by someone you just met
  • A book recommended by [each] family member
  • A book written by an author with the same initials as you
  • A book that takes place in your hometown
  • A book that came out the year you were born
  • A book with one word in the title
What’s in store for your reading list this year?

That's a great challenge!

I started a long challenge last year, read a book by an author from each country.

Here's my challenge, it's kind of short so far, so i'm open to recommendations!

  • A book About Growth
    A series with 4 books
a book with a female lead
a biography of someone that isn't a comedian
a book that is going to be a movie

I have the same reading challenges every year.

10 non-fiction books
10 classics - they don't have to be "old", I just finished "To Kill a Mockingbird"
Anything Stephen King or Jim Butcher
Finish reading Lee Child's books. I always choose 1 author each year to focus on.
Anything else that seems appealing.

at least 40 books each year.

A book that has only an alphabet in the tittle
A book with a person name in the tittle
A book with blue-pink cover
A book with my traditional language
A book with 600+ pages

Maybe that's all for now ^_^

Wow, let me know which do you choose, I could suggest you some italian authors ^-^

My list:
-I'd like to read at leats another book of Game of Thrones by the end of year
-A book of an author I follow but that is not sold in bookshops, so I have to catch him in book fairs
-A book my Uncle gave me about the Holy Grail and the Templars
-A book about King Arthur

Hopefully my list will grow through the year :D

Ooh, Alessandra, a bookfair-only author is a good idea! I might add that to my list.

So far mine looks something like this:

- a book that began life as a short story
- a book composed of interrelated short stories or poems
- a scholarly book (I'm already making headway on this one)
- a children's or YA book
- a book that was given to me by my English professors

I like these vague challenges as well, like a book with a color in the title. There are so many possible books that could fulfill that challenge!

Ooh fun. I'm totally stealing some of these ideas. Let's see if I can come up with a few:

A book who's protagonist is considerably older than me.
I'm 23, and I read a lot of fiction where the main characters are my age or younger. This could translate to anyone else as, "a book who's protagonist is a different age than the ones in books I usually read."

A thrift store buy.
There are lots of secondhand bookstores near me, and some of them have reeeeally old books.

A book from each section of Barnes and Noble, or from a certain number of sections, of your choosing.
Or whatever your favorite bookstore happens to be. Goal is to switch up your genre.

A memoir.
Anyone's.

A blind book swap.
Trade a book or two with a friend without telling one another anything about said books. Cover with paper bags so you can't judge the books by their covers.
