Patricia Briggs
Main genre: Fantasy / Adventure
Main audience: Young Adult on
Patricia Briggs has created several worlds, some of them on this planet, some totally elsewhere. The one that I'm currently most involved with involves a woman named Mercy Thompson and her adventures with a local pack of werewolves set (mostly) in the Tri-Cities area of Washington state with the accompanying Alpha and Omega stories which are interwoven in the Mercy Thompson time-line and involve many of the same characters. Oh, yes, there are also vampires, elves, and, well, lots of people who you thought were mythological and really, they are all around you.
Mercy Thompson Series
Moon Called
Blood Bound
Iron Kissed
Bone Crossed
Silver Borne
River Marked
Frost Burned
Night Broken
Alpha and Omega Series
On The Prowl
Cry Wolf
Hunting Ground
Fair Game
Dead Heat
Short summary of the author: Creates world which are believable, that you could walk into and 'know' who the folks are by how they act and talk, as well as how they look. Stories are usually pretty much straight-forward, without a lot of twists and turns (so it is very effective when a twisty turn comes around and you wonder 'where did THAT come from!?'). Briggs has definite ideas of good and evil but also is aware that the picture is oftentimes larger than what the participants in the story are aware of and this could, quite suddenly, have an impact upon whether or not something is seen as 'good' or 'evil'.
Good points / bad points: Good points - very readable. Bad points - right now I've found none but then, I would so totally love to live in that world which she created.
