Book Review: Allison Hewitt is Trapped - Madeleine Roux

Post by Amy Darvill »

Title of the book: Allison Hewitt is Trapped
Authors: Madeline Roux
Series: Loose Yes, There is a second book, set in the the same world, but has a different main character
Genres: fiction, dystopian, zombie fiction

(Notice: the book does have adult language at times. While it is a young adult book, I would steer towards the higher end of young adult.)

Brief Overview: Allison Hewitt, our main character, is chronicling her life through a blog. Nothing special. Except it's the zombie apocalypse outside, and she's trying to use the limited internet to find her mother and keep her own spirits up in these times. The book follows her from her attempt to live out the break room in her work place with her co-workers, to the inevitable need to leave and find a new community/shelter. Along the way, we see how Allison changes, loses and finds new friends, and learns that sometimes, humans are more dangerous then the zombies.

Review: Is it the finest literature of our time? No probably not. Did I have a very good time reading this book? Yes indeed. I saw one review on GoodReads describe it (derivesely) as chick lit punched into the zombie literature and i feel it's a pretty apt description. But while it's comedic at a lot of points, it actually does have a lot of heart in it too. I feel like I could really feel for the Allison and her companions and in some ways, it gave me a slightly more comedic take on the The Walking Dead world. (Note: not the same world at all) Plus, I weirdly love the bits of life we got from the commentators. I think being one of those people who have made and lost friends online, seeing how some of the commentators got to say bye and some just never show back up, it was a nice detail that made it feel believable for me.
