Book Review: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (SCREENPLAY)

Post by Prof. Will Lestrange »

Title of the book: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay
Authors: J.K. Rowling
Series: Spinoff from the Harry Potter series
Genres: fantasy
Short summary of the story: This book, which reads as a movie script, features the adventures of Newt Scamander in New York the year before he first publishes the titular book. Quidditch players will recognize a lot of Quidditch answers hidden throughout the course of this play!
Good points / bad points: The screenplay was designed to be watched in theaters - not read as a book (similar to Cursed Child, but Fantastic Beasts is much easier to get the chance to see in theaters). The story is surprisingly captivating even for those, like me, who are extremely frustrated with Pottermore and have their issues with Ilvermorny and JKR's take on American Wizarding history!

I really enjoyed this screenplay. I remember I found it in my local supermarket and I bought it straight away. When I realised it's a screenplay, I gathered my siblings and we read it together (I was Jacob Kowalski - I think the main reason is the nationality - we are both Polish!). The script was really easy to read and I've read the book couple of times (more than once for sure). Definitely recommend it. I think I'm going to buy the second screenplay and also read it with my siblings!
