Summary of story:
Mara, Daughter of the Nile is set in Ancient Egypt at the time of Hatshepsut's reign. The book tells the story of Mara, a slave girl who runs away from her master only to be bought by a group trying to kill Hatshepsut's brother. They want Mara to work as a spy in exchange for her freedom. She gladly accepts. The plan is to be the interpreter for a visiting princess and use her to get into the castle and find out what the prince is planning. However, the plan quickly goes awry when Mara, on her travel to the princess, meets a handsome man who wants her as his spy. He is trying to dethrone Hatshepsut and make her half brother pharaoh. Mara quickly finds herself working as spy for both sides and has to choose which side she most wants to help. In the end, Hatshepsut is taken off the throne and dies, while her half brother becomes pharaoh. I'm not one to read historical fiction, but this book surprised me, I really liked this one
