Book Review: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Post by Iverian Gnash »

Title: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
Author: Ransom Riggs
Series: Trilogy
Genres: mystery, horror, dark fantasy, fiction
Summary of story:
I read this book because I heard about the movie and usually my first response to a movie is 'was there a book'. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children was about this boy whose grandpa dies when these monsters get him. The boy finds his grandpa's journals and such and travels to an island he hears about through his psychiatrist where he finds Miss Peregrine. Miss Peregrine is the headmistress of a refuge school for peculiar children. The school is caught in a time loop. The boy finds out he is also peculiar because he is able to see monsters. The peculiar children all have something weird about them - one can fly, one can create fire with her hands, and now we find out that the boy can see monsters which is not something they can all do. In the end, the children come out of the time loop to save Miss Peregrine from Wights, evil beings who kill Peculiars. The boy, Jacob, tells his father goodbye and leaves with the Peculiars to seek help. This book was pretty good and not immensely scary at any point.
