Post by Vanessa Tilley »

Name of the author: J. K. Rowling
Main genre: Fantasy
Main audience: Young adults on
Main books: Harry Potter series

Short summary of the author: J. K. Rowling was born July 31, 1965 and from an early age knew that she wanted to be a writer. She had already written her first book at age 6 and her first novel at age 11. J. K. Rowling went to the University of Exeter where she obtained her BA in French and Classics. While working as a researcher and bilingual secretary for Amnesty International in London, J. K. Rowling came up with the idea for Harry Potter on a four hour delayed train trip from Manchester to London. She began writing Harry Potter once she reached Clapham Junction and the rest is history.

Good points / bad points: J. K. Rowling is a very imaginative writer and does an amazing jobs with details. It is always so easy for me to picture the scenes in the book and feel like I am actually there. She also does an amazing job in the world of character development. Each book she writes brings more interesting facets to each of her characters' personalities and you really get an understanding of what makes her characters tick.

Title: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Author: J. K. Rowling
Series: Harry Potter (Book 2)
Genre: YA, Fantasy
Audience: Young Adult and on

Another wonderful book in the Harry Potter series! This book is full of adventure, magic, fantasy and twists. I loved it!

It is so fun getting to know all the characters better and watching them grow and evolve each year. I love rooting for the main characters and seeing how creative they are as they get out of some pretty sticky situations. The friendships formed are incredible and touch my heart.

I also love the scenery and imagery J. K. Rowling was able to get in this novel from the creatures to the landscapes. I can see everything so vividly and wish that I could visit the castle especially at Christmas
