Book Review: City of Lost Souls

Post by Shiloh Adlar »

Book Title: City of Lost Souls
Author: Cassandra Clare
Series: The Mortal Instruments
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy

I’ve been reading The Mortal Instruments series for a while now, but I’ve been reading a lot of other books in between. The first two in this series started off great. The third one was amazing. Then the fourth one took a turn and didn’t hold my interest as well. The fifth book, this one here, held my interest more, but it still didn’t make me go, “Oh wow!” However, I will say the end has some twists to it, and I am very curious to a certain person’s condition. If you’ve read it, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

The relationship between Clary and Sebastion is actually one that had me reeling. I think it was written very well, and there’s a part of me that really wants to see how it’s going to end up. Jace’s character in this book reminded me a lot of myself at times, the feeling of being two people, of not remembering things as I too struggle with that at times for different reasons. I also wonder what will happen with Simon now that a certain part of him is no longer there, and that twist with Maureen and Malec (Magnus/Alec). I'm freaking out about that slightly. I need to know what's going to happen. Needless to say, I will be continuing on to book six as soon as I can. I hear it's marvelous, much better than the last two I read.
