Book Review: Oryx and Crake

Post by Aurelia West »

Title of the book: Oryx and Crake
Author: Margaret Atwood
Series: MaddAddam
Genres: Science Fiction

Oryx and Crake centers around the protagonist, Snowman, formerly known as Jimmy, who may be the last human in a post-apocalyptic world. It follows him on a journey to find out more about this new world he lives in, and is told in both the present and in flashbacks that slowly reveal how the world ended up the way it did.

I definitely found this book quite interesting, and I loved the world building that seemed different enough from what is familiar, but also something I could kind of identify with different parts of our world. It was different than what I usually tend to read, so it pushed me a little out of my comfort zone, but all the same I really enjoyed it. It definitely started the reader out with barely any knowledge of the world though, which was interesting but also frustrating, but the way events played out, I began to understand more as Atwood allowed me to.
