Books to Movies (or television series)

What books have you read where you'd love to see them as a movie (or television series)? What about a director for it? Which actors would you choose for which parts?

One of the books (series) which I would love to see as a movie (which would actually end up being several movies, I'm quite sure) is the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (and helped to finish by Brandon Sanderson).

For a director? Peter Jackson. Peter Jackson and of course, with Weta Workshop aiding and abetting the creation!
