Welcome to Week 5 of Bah, Humbook!

We hope you are enjoying the journey. :)

A present genre that seem to have become popular is the mash-up between romance and fantasy known as “romantasy”. Can you think of any other genres that you would like to see combined in the future that hasn’t been done yet?

If you can give it a 'Bah, Humbook' twist, you earn yourself some extra glitter! B)

Please post your answers below in at least 100 words for 10 beans. If you answer someone else, you may earn 5 beans for each reply. Deadline is January 10, 2026 at 23:59 HOL-Time.

Enjoy!

I tried to think of new genres, I really did, but I swear all of them have been done before. So, I’m gonna write about a genre that I like to think is criminally underwritten: apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic comedies.

While I do enjoy the occasional apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic novel, they’re so gloomy and bleak. I’m not saying they shouldn’t be, because the characters are usually purely in survival mode, and that would make anything tragic and pessimistic. However, there’s a lot of wiggle room for some comedy that would spice it up. I want satire in these books. A little bit of humor could break the tension of the darker themes that come with any kind of apocalyptic genre. It adds some more life to the story if characters are seen as a bit more human, despite all circumstances. The end of the world as characters know it doesn’t mean that it has to be the end of laughter.
