There are a couple of other things you can do, in addition to (or even instead of) solving this Sudoku puzzle to participate in our March activity.

Reply, in a post below, with one or both of the items listed. (Remember -- send the solution of the Sudoku to me and Emily in a Forum PM! It does not get posted with your write-up and graphic! ^_^ )

1 - Write about the author, telling us of his life and his work, so we can learn more about this lovely man. Have at least 90 words - your own words - in your write-up.

2 - Create a collage which contains nine separate images for that author representing their life and their work. Post it in here, below, along with your write-up. Be sure that the graphic is 600x600 or less. Please write a description underneath the collage, describing what you have in it, and why it represents Newt's life and work.

Remember, when you complete each part of the week's celebration of an author, you can earn 20 Beans. So if you solve the sudoku, do a write-up and create a graphic, you will earn 60 Beans. :D

When you post, please keep your post HOL-appropriate.

Everything will be due by the March 31st, 11:59 pm HOL time.

The top left is Newt with the Qilin from The Secrets of Dumbledore and it represents the work and determination it took him to “accomplish” his mission of confusing Grindelwald. The top middle is of Picket which is his pet that he keeps with him at all times. The top right of newt in his briefcase to show what his life looks like down there and how his creatures survive. The middle left is of a claw and a human hand to represent he love for magical and non-magical creatures. The centre is of his first night with Jacob at Tina and Queenies house to represent the start of the journey. The middle right is a drawing of a Niffler to Represent newts niffler and the trouble it caused him at the bank with Jacob. The bottom left is the exterior of his briefcase to represent and show not to judge a book by its cover. The bottom middle is of his life’s work and purpose, his book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. And the last photo bottom right is of him at Hogwarts. It shows where his magical career started and how his life evolved and began.

Newton Artemis Fido Scamander was born on February 24th 1897 in England. He is also known at Newt to all his friends and family. The only family we really know of is his brother Theseus. He is a Magizoologist and wrote the book on it called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. He attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted into Hufflepuff house. He is renowned as the worlds only Magizoologist. While at Hogwarts he became great friends with Leta Lestrange who later was to marry his brother if she hadn’t died. Leta Lestrange also said that she chose Theseus over Newt because Newt was too out there.

edit: Maverick, I edited your post some. I shrunk down your image to 600x600 (it's 800x800) and plopped it in, leaving your link for the larger picture so people can see it 'bigger'. - Tarma .................... PS - nice job!

#1 - Write-Up

One thing I find rather endearing is how much magizoology or just the care and love of magical creatures runs in the Scamander family. Apparently, Newt's love of creatures was inspired by his mother's breeding of Hippogriffs. It's strange though that she wasn't more impressed with Newt's career in magizoology.

Of course, then you have Newt himself, a world-renowned magizoologist. Not much is known about the child (probably son) of Newt and Porpentina. However, Newt's grandson, Rolf, follows in his grandfather's footsteps and becomes a photographer and correspondent, with the title of 'Chief Consulting Magizoologist'.

He also marries Luna Lovegood, who is a fervent admirer of magical creatures, those less known as well. I do wonder if that trait was passed onto Luna's and Rolf's sons as well.

1. Newt Scamander deeply loved working with magical creatures around the world. He often worked with creatures during his employment with the Ministry of Magic. During the First World War, Newt served on the Eastern Front in a confidential program for the Ministry of Magic to wrangle Ukrainian Ironbellys. However, this program ended because the dragons would only respond to Newt, attempting to devour the rest of the team. Newt later joined the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. He spent two years in the Office for House-Elf Relocation, then ultimately joined the Beast division, which quickly propelled his career as a Magizoologist due to his knowledge and promotions.

Pictured above from left to right, up to down is Teddy, Newt's suitcase, a Demiguise, Pickett clinging to Newt, Newt patting Frank, an Erumpent, Tina Goldstein, Queenie Goldstein, and Jacob Kowalski. Teddy is Newt's Niffler, occasionally giving Newt a run for his money. Newt's suitcase houses his magical creatures in a portable fashion. The Demiguise is one of the creatures in Newt's possession. Pickett is one of Newt's Bowtruckles (whom he was especially fond of). Frank was a Thunderbird Newt rescued and released to return to his natural habitat. The Erumpent is another one of his creatures. Tina, Queenie, and Jacob have helped him greatly in his adventures and care for creatures.

Write-Up:

In the collage, in the centre, there is a full-body portrait of Newton Artemis Fido "Newt" Scamander, O.M. (Second Class). In the top left, we can see Newt Scamander speaking with Albus Dumbledore. The image adjacent to it shows Scamander with his brother Theseus Scamander. Then in the second image on the left edge, we can see Newt with his friends— Porpentina Goldstein, Jacob Kowalski, and Queenie Goldstein. In the image below, we can see Newt interacting with his favourite Bowtruckle named Pickett. In the image below that one, we can see Newt interacting with the Thunderbird inside his magical suitcase. In the image beside that, we can see Newt being picked up by a Zouwu while he is interacting with it. Above that image, we can see Newt trying to tickle his Niffler named Teddy who had just looted a bank vault, in order to make him let go of everything he had stolen. And lastly, above that we can see a Runespoor in their designated environment, behind Newt and Jacob, when they were inside Newt’s magical suitcase.

From all of this, we can easily understand how great Newt was with magical creatures. After all, not everyone is regarded to be the greatest Magizoologist of all time, just like that.

Newt had also attended Hogwarts and had been sorted into Hufflepuff in 1908, but was later expelled in 1913 because he took the blame for his friend Leta Lestrange’s experiment gone wrong, which endangered another student’s life.

Scamander had also joined the Ministry of Magic's Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. He served two years in the Office for House-Elf Relocation before transferring to the Beast Division, where his excellent expertise in magical creatures helped him get several promotions, thus helping him move forward in his career as a Magizoologist.

He had also served on the Eastern Front in a confidential Ministry of Magic programme to wrangle Ukrainian Ironbellies. The programme was ultimately cancelled as the dragons only responded to Scamander and tried to eat everyone else.

In 1918, Augustus Worme of Obscurus Books commissioned Scamander to write the first edition of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”. As we all know, his book has now become one of the most important educational books used by almost all magical schools around the globe to teach about the Care of Magical Creatures and other technicalities related to such creatures.

In other words, his book is considered to be the most important contribution made to the field of research and knowledge about magical creatures.

1. About the Author (Write-up):
A renowned, exceptional, contemporary magizoologist, Newton (Newt) Artemis Fido Scamander is certainly someone very few would say they didn't know. Sorted into Hufflepuff house, he was expelled from Hogwarts without completing his standard exams, but not only did he go on to become an amazing magizoologist who worked in the Ministry of Magic's Department for the Control and Regulation of Magical Creatures in the Beast Division, but also became an entrant in "The Museum of Magic’s British Hall of Fame". Newt's expulsion from school was strongly objected against by his DADA instructor, Albus Dumbledore, who recognized his innocence. During his time at the Ministry, he wrote two groundbreaking pieces of legislation - the Werewolf Register and the Ban on Experimental Breeding. These legislations changed the legal system of the wizarding world forever, making life so much better for both beasts and beings. He also received the Order of Merlin, Second Class, despite his lack of education, showing how inspiring his life and adventures were and how praiseworthy his inherent talent was.
Newt Scamander had hazel eyes, and brown hair, and was light-skinned in complexion. His wand wood, core, and wand length are unknown. His boggart was an office job, telling us more about his adventurous spirit. Later in life, he married Porpentina Goldstein.
He was commissioned by Obscurus books to write "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them", and his book ended up becoming a huge success in the magical community.
Well-known in the wizarding world, he is a role model for many aspiring magizoologists and animal-loving witches and wizards. I personally think that he would fit into the DISC personality profile - (I)nfluence, owing to his charming and charismatic personality, quick social recognition and rise to fame, and his optimistic and trusting nature.

2. Collage:
Image
Description of collage: The top left picture in the collage shows Newt and Jacob watching a hatching Occamy. The top right picture in the collage shows Newt caressing Tina with a murtlap bite visible at the back of his hand. The middle left picture in the collage shows Newt studying a hippogriff and taking notes. Out of the two pictures in the middle of the collage, the bottom one shows Newt showing his friend Leta a Bowtruckle in the Bowtruckle Island. The bottom left picture shows Newt and Leta caring for a raven chick. The bottom right picture shows Bunty together with Newt and the Qilin. Together, all these pictures represent the different animals Newt took care of or interacted with throughout his lifetime since school life and into his later life as a magizoologist. In the top middle of the collage, the picture shows Newt's wand with unknown wand wood, unknown wand core, and unknown wand length. Out of the two pictures in the middle of the collage, the top one shows Newt during his fight with Gellert Grindelwald showing one of the most crucial and major times in his life. The middle right image shows Newt's enchanted suitcase that all of us more or less know about.

Write-up:

Newt was a Hufflepuff Hogwarts student born in England in the late nineteenth century. Newt has always been different in a remarkable way due to his immense compassion for living creatures. Some didn’t see it and saw him as strange and others did see it and encouraged it. What I truly love about his compassion is the lengths he would go to in order to protect the creatures. Some would say it is like each of them is an important part of his family and is considered as a loved one. He wrote Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, became a Magizoologist and spent most of his life trying to teach people of the wonders of magical creatures and to protect them.

Collage:

Image shows in first row a young Newt, his wand and the book he wrote showing his great potential as a promising wizard. Second row, his adventures, the lengths he went to protect the creatures hidden in his suitcase. Last row shows his relationships with the creatures and people he met and became his friends and family who he would fight for and protect.
