January 2022 Quick Quotes Round Two is wrapped up with:
Food, wonderful food
From Madam, Will You Talk? by Mary Stewart
********************The dinner that I had dreamed up proved to be every bit as good as the dream. We began with iced melon, which was followed by the famous brandade truffée, a delicious concoction of fish cooked with truffles. We could quite contentedly have stopped there, but the next course--some small bird like a quail, simmered in wine and served on a bed of green grapes--would have tempted an anchorite to break his penance. Then crêpes Suzette, and, finally, coffee and armagnac.

From Chocolat by Joanne HarrisAnd the children... Chocolate curls, white buttons with colored vermicelli, pain d'épices with gilded edging, marzipan fruits in their nests of ruffled paper, peanut brittle, clusters, cracknells, assorted misshapes in half-kilo boxes... I sell dreams, small comforts, sweet harmless temptations to bring down a multitude of saints crash-crash-crashing among the hazels and nougatines...

Food, Wonderful Food
From: A Christmas Carol by Charles DickensHallo! A great deal of steam! The pudding was out of the copper. A smell like a washing-day! That was the cloth. A smell like an eating-house and a pastrycook’s next door to each other, with a laundress’s next door to that! That was the pudding! In half a minute Mrs Cratchit entered — flushed by smiling proudly — with the pudding, like a speckled cannon-ball, so hard and firm, blazing in half of half-a-quartern of ignited brandy, and bedight with Christmas holly stuck into the top.

--- The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. LewisAnd when they had finished the fish, Mrs Beaver brought unexpectedly out of the oven a great and gloriously sticky marmalade roll, steaming hot, and at the same time moved the kettle onto the fire, so that when they had finished the marmalade roll the tea was made and ready to be poured out.

Re: Quick Quotes Round Two
– Erin Morgenstern, "The Night Circus”I have read for countless people on innumerable subjects and the most difficult thing to understand within the cards is always the timing. I knew that, and still it surprised me. How long I was willing to wait for something that was only a possibility. I always thought it was just a matter of time but I was wrong.
Feel like I’m stretching here, but this is the quote in my soul for the prompt. <3

Re: Quick Quotes Round Two
– Madeleine L'Engle, "A Wrinkle in Time”We're not alone, you know, children. All through the universe, it's being fought. All through the cosmos. And my, but it's a grand and exciting battle! I know it's hard for you to understand about size, how there's very little difference in the size of the tiniest microbe and the greatest galaxy. Maybe it won't seem strange to you that some of our very best fighters have come right from your own planet. And it's a little planet, dears, out on the edge of a little galaxy. You can be proud that it's done so well.
I love this quote and use it here and there/think of it regularly. While it was the first thing that came to mind, I was initially about to search for something different when a memory popped up on my social media with the same quote I’d posted there four years ago today. Seemed like a nudge to go for it.

The meaning of life is…
from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
More of the quote, for those who haven't read that in a while or ever ...
“O Deep Thought computer," he said, "the task we have designed you to perform is this. We want you to tell us...." he paused, "The Answer."
"The Answer?" said Deep Thought. "The Answer to what?"
"Life!" urged Fook.
"The Universe!" said Lunkwill.
"Everything!" they said in chorus.
[Seven and a half million years later.... Fook and Lunkwill are long gone, but their descendents continue what they started]
"Good Morning," said Deep Thought at last.
"Er..good morning, O Deep Thought" said Loonquawl nervously, "do you have...er, that is..."
"An Answer for you?" interrupted Deep Thought majestically. "Yes, I have."
The two men shivered with expectancy. Their waiting had not been in vain.
"There really is one?" breathed Phouchg.
"There really is one," confirmed Deep Thought.
"To Everything? To the great Question of Life, the Universe and everything?"
"Yes."
Both of the men had been trained for this moment, their lives had been a preparation for it, they had been selected at birth as those who would witness the answer, but even so they found themselves gasping and squirming like excited children.
"And you're ready to give it to us?" urged Loonsuawl.
"I am."
"Now?"
"Now," said Deep Thought.
They both licked their dry lips.
"Though I don't think," added Deep Thought. "that you're going to like it."
"Doesn't matter!" said Phouchg. "We must know it! Now!"
"Now?" inquired Deep Thought.
"Yes! Now..."
"All right," said the computer, and settled into silence again. The two men fidgeted. The tension was unbearable.
"You're really not going to like it," observed Deep Thought.
"Tell us!"
"All right," said Deep Thought. "The Answer to the Great Question..."
"Yes..!"
"Of Life, the Universe and Everything..." said Deep Thought.
"Yes...!"
"Is..." said Deep Thought, and paused.
"Yes...!"
"Is..."
"Yes...!!!...?"
"Forty-two," said Deep Thought, with infinite majesty and calm.”

--- Letters to Vera by Vladimir NabokovIt is late now, I am a bit tired; the sky is irritated by stars. And I love you, I love you, I love you – and perhaps this is how the whole enormous world, shining all over, can be created – out of five vowels and three consonants.
