Book Trivia Game - Round Two

Post by Prof. Tarma Amelia Black »

The Book Club returns with Round Two of the Book Trivia Game.

Again, each month we will have a different overarching theme. Questions and/or answers will have their origins in that theme.

In September, we have Historical Fiction as our theme. Your challenge is to assign the correct historical time period to various books. Following are a list of books and authors and a list of historical time periods. Not all the time periods will be used; some time periods might have more than one book assigned to it.

Good luck!

Books and Authors
1. Eagle of the 9th by Rosemary Sutcliff
2. Charioteer of Delphi by Caroline Lawrence
3. The Prince of Rags and Patches by Terry Deary
4. Clockwork Angel by Casandra Claire.
5. The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow by Katherine Woodfine
6. Just Binnie by Dick King-Smith
7. These Old Shades by Georgette Heyer
8. Johnny Tremain by Esther Hoskins Forbes
9. Nobody's Princess by Esther M. Friesner
10. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

12. Mara, Daughter of the Nile by Eloise Jarvis McGraw
13. Outrun the Moon by Stacey Lee
14. The Midwife's Apprentice by Karen Cushman
15. Woods Runner by Gary Paulsen

Historical Time Period

B. Civil War
C. Early 20th Century (early 1900's)
D. Edwardian
E. Egyptian

Send me your answers in a HOL Forum PM (click this to send PM to me) titled Book Trivia - September.

Write your answers like this:
1 - a
2 - b
Those are not necessarily correct answers.

You will receive 3 Beans per correct match; the requirements of completion of this activity (and which goes towards the possibility of snagging a Book Club award) are completed when you get at least ten of them.

If you wish to earn some additional Beans, I've given a list of characters' names for each of the books. One character per book. If you add in that name after the book and time period, you earn an additional 2 beans.

Names: Alyce, Anne Shirley, Binnie, Flavia, Frank Hollahan, Helen, Lillian Rose, Lord Justin Alastair, Marcus, Mercy Wong, Rab Silsbee, Samuel, Sheftu, Tessa Gray, Will Marsden

You have until the end of September to send in your matches for this month's Book Trivia Game.

You maybe receive partial Beans, too, in case you don't know all of the matches. Give it a whirl!

Our Book Trivia Game continues in October with a favorite theme of the month - Horror Stories. Who hasn't told (or listened to) horror stories in a darkened room, shivering in fright and/or delight?

Your challenge is to match up the books to the authors. All of the books listed are used as are all of the authors. Some books might have more than one author, though, and an author might have more than one of the listed books to their credit!

Enjoy!

Shiver your way through November's Book Trivia Game - featuring Winter. Ice is forming on the puddles outside and it's nice to be toasty and warm inside!

We've gathered some 'winter theme' books and listed sentences from them. Your challenge is to match up the books with the sentences. (Most of the sentences are the first sentence of the book, others are notable for being in that book.)

Each book has one matching sentence.

Book Titles and Authors
1. Little Women - Louisa May Alcott
2. Shiver - Maggie Stiefvater
3. The Bear and the Nightingale - Katherine Arden
4. The Book Thief - Markus Zusak
5. The Girl in the Tower - Katherine Arden
6. The Golden Compass (aka Northern Lights)- Philip Pullman
7. The Hobbit, or There and Back Again - J. R. R. Tolkien
8. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - C.S. Lewis
9. The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern
10. What Light - Jay Asher
11. Winterwood - Shea Ernshaw

Sentences from the books
A. It was late winter in northern Rus', the air sullen with wet that was neither rain nor snow.
B. “Christmas won't be Christmas without any presents,” grumbled Jo, lying on the rug.
C. Lyra and her daemon moved through the darkening Hall, taking care to keep to one side, out of sight of the kitchen.
D. Once there were four children whose names were Peter, Susan, Edmond, and Lucy.
E. The circus arrives without warning.
F. Here is a small fact: You are going to die.
G. “You're beautiful and sad," I said finally, not looking at him when I did.
H. A girl rode a bay horse through a forest late at night.
I. “I don't know how to fully enjoy any of these moments without wondering if it's the last.”
J. In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.
K. “It's like a fairytale suspended in time-the princess forgotten, the hero eaten whole by a noble Fir goblin."
