Book Bout - Exploring worlds and universes

Post by Prof. Tarma Amelia Black »

Reading books, you encounter Panem, Pern, Tortall, Atlantis, Petaybe and other places. Some of them are here on this planet, albeit perhaps of a different time and place. Others are on another world or perhaps even in another universe. Of all the worlds and universes in the books that you've read, which one would you most like to explore? Why is this? Would you need any special equipment to explore it?

Post below and tell us where you would go exploring. You will earn 5 team points and 10 Beans when you complete this task. Please make sure that your post is of at least 80 words and completed by August 23rd!

I believe that I would most like to visit Night Vale. It is similar enough to our own reality that I would enjoy living there as I do not think that I could survive without the amenities for long. Despite being very modern, Night Vale has its own quirks from strange laws (no writing utensils) to its unusual inhabitants (five-headed dragon as one of its mayors) that would still make life interesting. As for surviving in it, you need quick reflexes, smarts and suspension of belief. There are a lot of dangers in the lovely town. A lot!

I would love to visit the wizarding world of course, I'm still waiting for my letter to arrive. I would also like to visit the world of Narnia, I just need a special wardrobre and maybe some coats hahaha but the scenery they portray is absolutely magical and beautiful for my imagination. I have visited many of the HP locations during my trips and it's an amazing feeling that you are walking in the characters' shoes.
One final place I want to travel to is to Prythian (from A Court of Thorns and Roses) which so far is the most magical and beautiful place ever <3 with immortals and supernatural powers (here's a map of it in case you were wondering https://imgur.com/a/YT5WtQv)

Since reading Jane Austen's Persuasion, I would love to visit Lyme Regis. It would be amazing to visit it now but also during the time when Jane Austen visited it herself in 1803 and 1804, not just to see her in person but also to experience what it was like to wear the dresses of the day, to listen to the way people spoke and to view the social etiquette that women were expected to follow. As Lyme Regis is on the English Channel coast/Jurassic coast, I could enjoy the sound of the sea while searching for shells and hunting for fossils in the clay amongst the limestone. A stroll across the steps of the Cobb could make a nice end to the day but I don't think I want to jump from them!

I've been trying to choose a world or universe and I keep coming back to the Enchanted Forest from The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede. It is one of the first worlds that I fell in love with and it isn't nearly as dangerous as other universes. Obviously, the Enchanted Forest is magical and I would absolutely want to visit a place where magic exists (and magic carpets). There are also dragons! Not just any dragons either. The dragons who live by the Enchanted Forest are friendly. They interact and talk to other creatures. I have always been a fan of alternate fairy tales, so I would enjoy meeting all the other inhabitants of the Enchanted Forest and learning their stories.

I think the most obvious answer for this one is Narnia. Who wouldn't want to meet Aslan or Caspian? Or maybe meet some other mystic creatures? Ever since I read The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis I always wanted to go to Narnia myself and meet Aslan. And the movies made me more frustrated that I can't! I love Aslan so much, my favourite character for sure. After rewatching it with my children and seeing their excitement, I felt like I went back in time. The old excitement and frustration came back. I think if I had a chance to go to Narnia I would take a regular camera with me so I could take some photos and show them to my family and to keep my Narnian friends forever in my heart (and be able to see them more often when I'm going to be out of Narnia!).
