Book Bout - Bookmarks - Odd or Not
What do you use for a bookmark? Take a picture of what you are using now and post it below OR describe it to us in 80 words or more. If you take a photograph of it to post, please keep your graphic to 600x600 or smaller. Please also include a short description of your graphic underneath it.
OR
What's the oddest thing you've ever used as a bookmark? Same thing - take a picture of it or describe it. (If it is a picture, again, please describe it.)
You have until end of the day, August 23rd, to post below and earn 5 team points and 10 beans.

Re: Book Bout - Bookmarks - Odd or Not
I am one of those heathens that rarely use a bookmark, but that does not mean that I dog-ear a book. I mostly just use whatever paper or flat thing that I have on hand and shove it between the pages.
I do have bookmarks though, mostly promotional material or swag that was around when I order books from a bookstore and they throw a few bookmarks in for free. I have quite a collection of Harry Potter movies and Fantastic Beasts movies promotional bookmarks, but my favorite is the one that came with Welcome to Night Vale novel. It is purple, with ink illustrations of the characters and places in Night Vale, with the deep purple and white eye symbol of the series.

Re: Book Bout - Bookmarks - Odd or Not
I cannot imagine not owning a bookmark and it is very rarely that I read a book without one. It is only when absolute necessity dictates that I will bend the corner of a page but It always makes me feel bad for doing that as if somehow I'm being really disrespectful to my books.
Now, thankfully, I have several bookmarks, as I went through a phase of getting one whenever I visited somewhere that I hadn't been before. Some are covered with names of the places or golden colored cathedrals or famous authors/ characters that are associated with a place.
My favourite one is from the Muggle city of Gloucester; it is only a thin, plastic one but I love it because it has a pastel blue cord attached to it. Most importantly of all there is a beautiful image of one of Beatrix potter's watercolor illustrations from The Tale of Tom Kitten, of which underneath is a small quote from that story. I hope I get to go there again so I can get one of The Tailor of Gloucester.

Re: Book Bout - Bookmarks - Odd or Not
I use a bookmark that belonged to my grandmother, it was handmade and has a wool pompon in the top.
Is made of cardboard from a milk box - my grandmother loved doing crafty recyclable things - that she then covered with some leftover Christmas wrapping paper with a floral design and added a hole on the top and put a string of pink wool and attached a handmade pink pompon in the end.
Since I have many books and sometimes I read more than one at a time, I use the ones that are given to me at stores as a "gift" for buying a hole lot of books xD which are the normal plastic ones with cheer-up phrases that always come in handy.
I never use pictures cuz I'm afraid I'm gonna forget where they are and loose them - pictures to me are immensely significant - so sometime I could also just use a post it note.
What I never EVER do is to fold the tip of the page over to mark. *Carrie cringes at the image of that* oh my heart...

Re: Book Bout - Bookmarks - Odd or Not
I have all kinds of real bookmarks - laminated ones with cute inspirational phrases on them, glossy paper ones decorated with jungle animals and shiny tassels, etc. My favorite one is a little gold filigree one with a red tassel on it. Strangely enough, I don't use them! I usually end up using whatever I can find that's close to me and convenient to throw in to mark my page. I've used napkins, envelopes, paper money, receipts...anything relatively flat. I have two books in progress right now (one for Bout and one for work) - one has a white piece of paper folded in quarters marking the page and the other has a lined purple piece of paper that I used to solve a logic puzzle. Whatever works, I suppose!

This is one of the book marks which I made a couple of years back.I kind of used a couple of threads and stitched in a pattern on I guess a piece of fabric made of jute and then I laminated it.

Re: Book Bout - Bookmarks - Odd or Not

These are the two bookmarks that I frequently use, which you can tell by how worn out they are. The top one is the Thomas Jefferson Memorial from one of my trips to DC. The bottom one is Jefferson's home Monticello. I was there in the spring, so, unfortunately, I didn't get to see the gorgeous fall foliage depicted in the bookmark.
If I need another bookmark, I'll find a piece of scrap paper or use the receipt that comes with the library books that tells me when they are due. When I was in school, I'd fold a Post-it note in half and draw these bunny cartoon characters (Ginger wore a purple shirt with a happy face on it) that I created on them to use as bookmarks.

Re: Book Bout - Bookmarks - Odd or Not
I've had a few bookmarks back in the day, but mostly/these days I just take advantage of whatever's near and flat. Currently have the invitation to my cousin's wedding in the book "The Journeys of Socrates" keeping my place for me. They did a beautiful job with lots of black, and golden painted writing. One thing I used to love to do is create an outline of a bookmark on paper, then after drawing something (my favorite one was of a Snitch) and cutting it out, I would scotch-tape it all over to give it a little more of a 'laminated' look.

Re: Book Bout - Bookmarks - Odd or Not
I have a few bookmarks from places I have gone to. But I don't usually use them. If I am reading a book I usually just use a piece of scrap paper, or if I am going back to the book shortly, I will just type the page number in on my notes on my phone. But, nowadays I am usually reading e-books instead of paper books, so the applications that I use usually save which page you are on so I don't have to use a bookmark.

As you can clearly see - I love wolves! These bookmarks are my favourite because of the wolves on them! The blue one is a 3D bookmark and the other one is a normal one. I usually prefer the grey bookmark because it’s more comfortable for me.

Re: Book Bout - Bookmarks - Odd or Not
I’m somewhat ashamed of this but I am one of those heathens who regularly bends the top corners of pages in order to bookmark them. I tend to lose bookmarks at a ridiculously fast pace and somehow they always tend to drop out. Of course, I only bend the edges of my own book collection and don’t do the same when borrowing library books or books from a friend as that would be downright rude. When I do borrow books, though, my favorite bookmark to use is one a friend gave me a few years ago. I couldn’t find a picture to post but it’s a laminated homemade bookmark with a few leaves in the center. The story behind this bookmark is that my whole high school class was on a 3-day long trip to the mountains and this friend decided to pick up leaves and flowers along the way which she pressed and made into bookmarks for her friends. This is one of the only bookmarks I’m very careful with as I wouldn’t want to lose it!

Re: Book Bout - Bookmarks - Odd or Not
There was a period of time when I was younger where I would use paper bookmarks. I had a laminated Harry Potter- themed bookmark, and sometimes I would use the free-ones given at libraries and bookstores. Now, I rarely use them. I don't think there's any true reason to my abrupt bookmarking habit; I guess I just stopped keeping track of them. It is in no way efficient, but now I'll either sear the page number I'm on into my brain or insert the nearest thin-ish object to hold my place, like a pencil (and on one interesting occasion, a banana).

I'm a bit partial to emery boards! They get passed out during each election so they're free, and they aren't so small that I lose them in between pages, because if I use something too thin, I may never find my page again.
