Hey all, Slytherin Prefect/Head Student Arianna here! Many of you had your first intro to me through HOL 101, where I am the class assistant. I love getting introduced to you all through your introduction/welcome feast assignments! One of the things I find most interesting is the wide-array of names you all come up with! Some try to "Potterfy" their HOL names, or do a variation of their in-real-life name/nicknames, while some (such as myself) come up with completely unrelated names! For most of my online presences, I am either Arianna Stonewater or Paige Pennyfeather (this is mostly just for D&D, but I did use it in a Lord of the Rings forum before it was shut down...) So, my question to you all today is this:
What would your name be if this were a school for another Fandom?
Would you keep your name, find something to match the new fandom, or pick something entirely different?
A Student by any other name....

I would likely still use the name Mia (I do use variations of it for other sites). I am unsure if I would continue to use Fountain, it has grown on me so I might. But, I wouldn't want to accidently get HOL and a different school website confused, so I'd probably choose a different surname.

Re: A Student by any other name....
The reason I picked my HOL name is because it matches my RL initials. I wasn't even thinking of Kendra Dumbledore when I picked Kendra, so the intention has not inherently to do with the HP universe. I just wanted a more fanciful K name (actually thought of the name because of a former teacher). Givens came to me completely randomly.
My identity here has become so special to me that I don't think I'd duplicate it anywhere else. My name represents who I am in this particular community and nowhere else. I would like stick with a name that uses the same initials, but not the same name at all.

Re: A Student by any other name....
That is a really interesting question indeed.
I think I would probably pick another name, unless it was a site where I knew a lot of other HOLers would be as well in which case I might want to be able to be identified by them and therefore would like to go by the same name.
For a different fandom that would be rather unlikely though.
But it's not because I think Gail Allen fits particularly well with the HP fandom. I picked it because I was quite into Outlander at the time and I wanted a name that I thought fitting to the areas these books take place in.
Though of course both Harry Potter and Outlander take place in Britain (at least some of the time), so the name I suppose is fitting for that reason.
For another fandom I would probably be about as conscious of fitting my name to the fandom; I don't want a name that directly references the characters of that fandom; I don't want to imply family ties to any known families cause I personally find it a little difficult. But I would want to make sure that any name I picked would not seem out of place for the fandom I was in at the moment.

I have no idea... I liked the name Eudora Mandrake but it has nothing to do with my actual name. I discovered this name by signing up to HOL and if i would register to other forums I think I would just use Eudora again !

I LOVE the name Eudora! My husband and I both have first names that start with E; Eudora was almost my daughter's name and we'd call her Dora, but then we found Edrea! I wanted her nickname to be Rea, but it's somehow become Ed, haha!Eudora Mandrake wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 3:10 pm Hi there
