I am new here and hence I only have 1 bean somehow. Can someone tell me how are beans earned, where else are beans used and how (other than this event) and also how can I take part in this event?

And to answer your question: Beans are earned during some HOL activities and for earning points (one bean per ten points; you got your first bean when you got your first ten points for completing your "How I Got into Harry Potter" section on your profile). So far there aren't many things you can use beans for yet. Mostly you can just send them to others.
