I know there was a post for the original Guild Wars, but GW1 and GW2 are so drastically different that I figure a separate one makes sense.

Has anyone else gotten this yet, or planning to? What do you think of it so far and has it lived up to the hype?

I've been really happy with it so far - the dynamic events is really the distinguishing difference in my opinion. It not only manages to spontaneously get tons of players cooperating without even any planning/talking necessary, it also makes wandering around fun and I don't even mind when I get lost or completely get sidetracked. That's pretty great.

I also really like how they are clearly cooperation focused - they made sure that all fighting, gathering, and events are such that having many people there with you is not a disadvantage and you can all participate without worrying about losing out because they got there first and all. Even guilds are like this - you can join multiple ones (though you can only represent/get points for one at a time).

That said, there is still one kind of annoying thing. That camera. If ever there was a camera that went out of its way to make you want to cry, it is this one xD.

I want GW2 so bad, but I went and blew my gaming budget for a while on the Steam summer sale. XD What profession and race are you playing (or professions and races)?

I'm playing a human guardian right now, but my other chars will probably be Charr engineer, Sylvari thief, Asura Elementalist, and Norn Ranger.

They gave you just enough slots for one race each xD

Kind of disappointing seeing as how GW1 had 8 slots...

I just got this game and I must say that I'm a little disappointed with it. Maybe it will just take some getting used to; but I miss the graphic quality that 'regular' Guild Wars had and the camera is driving me up a wall..literally. I am having the hardest time moving around. That said, I do like being able to play different races and the engineer rocks! I also like the idea of crafting (which was one of my favorite things in WoW) and the ability to use the terrain when moving around. Thus far I have a Norn Guardian, Slyvari Elementalist, Human Ranger, Asuran Engineer. I think I'll make my Charr tonight..torn between Necromancer and Thief.

My graphics card isn't the greatest so I'm not too terribly disappointed by the graphics. I'm disappointed by only five slots, but I'll work it out somehow. And yeah, the camera needs fixing and I miss the follow ability from GW1, I play with my parents, and my dad is a terrible speed demon, being able to follow would make it easier to keep up with him. But overall, I really like the game, and have already made several characters. A human thief, Norn ranger, Slyvari Guardian, and planning on making a Charr engineer.

Oh, yeah, crafting is a neat feature - not sure why we can only have two at once though - it seems kind of unnecessary to me. The only effect I can tell is that people switch when they want anyhow, but get taxed on it. Another thing that's a bit sad is that intermediate pieces don't store in collections (like parts of a piece of armor) nor do rare/gold materials, though I sort of understand why they'd do that.

I haven't really used the terrain, but the mobility and how if you dodge things will actually miss are two things that definitely make combat a lot more interesting in GW1, for sure. It actually took me a while to stop standing around watching the battle and actually moving around and such because I was still playing like I did in GW1. Now if only that camera would stop freaking out and making me lose targets...

I didn't even know there was a follow ability in GW1 o.O And I played/beat all four of them too...oops?

Yeah the 'follow' feature was wonderful! Hopefully, too, you will be able to buy more character slots. One thing I do love is the auction house/sell feature. It sure as heck beats standing around Lion's Arch/Drok's trying to drum up business to sell stuff.

*level 80 human engineer walks in, lighting up a bomb to awaken the thread*

Although my new necro might have worked better for a dead thread, lol. But mostly, I'm looking to see if anyone else has started playing the game. How is everyone liking the Heart of Thrones expansion? Looking forward to the Path of Fire expansion?

I have to say, I love the gliding that came from HOT, but alot of the special movements (those crystals!!) drive me bonkers. My computer is a bit laggy to start with, so special movements tend to make it harder on me. So I'm actually only starting on the Heart of Thrones story quests now. I've got my engineer about halfway through I think. Everyone else has to still be moved towards it.
