Re: January Prompt: Magical Me

In Gathering the Ghosts , famed writer Gilderoy Lockhart, details what it is like to have no idea who one is after a memory charm goes wrong. While speaking of his troubles, he also sends the readers on an adventure inside the walls of St. Mungo's where he is currently still recovering. Lockhart beg...

Re: Howl's Moving Castle, Chapters 16-21

I don't know about certain parts of this book. It was strange adding the modern world in and then not really exploring it as one of the ends to the story... unless I missed something. Howl does seem like his usual self though I think part of his true self was hidden to protect the others. As far as...

Re: Howl's Moving Castle, Chapters 11-15

I liked these chapters very much. Kingsbury was fine but seeing the modern world was really cool too. I do like when authors bring stuff like this in however it has to be done appropriately. I'm not sure how I feel about this one yet. Sometimes, bringing in the modern world can really take me out of...

Re: Howl's Moving Castle, Chapters 6-10

I feel like there's a lot more going on that needs to be seen yet, especially when it comes to Howl. I don't too much mind the fact that these items have no explanation. After all, does magic really need explanation? Though some of these spells that Howl is using, I wonder how many are real and how ...

Re: Howl's Moving Castle, Chapters 1-5

Such an excellent book thus far. I do think Sophie is learning more about herself since changing. There are even lines where she talks about if she were a girl still, she wouldn't be asking the way she is now. She would be embarrassed by it. By not being herself, I wonder if she is really able to be...

Virtual Reality Gaming - The OASIS

Question. Am I the only one who would love to experience a game like this with a full haptic suit and a virtual reality headset to be able to fully immerse myself in another world? I don't think I would be addicted to it like it can become for some people I'm sure, but just the experience of it woul...

Re: On the Outside

I finally finished a beautifully written book called Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi in which the town of Ferenwood is built on magic and vibrant colors. However, Alice, our heroine in the story, was born without color at all. Because of this, people might say that she doesn't have any magic, but this i...

Re: Dystopias and Similar

After a recommendation from the lovely Gail Allen, I picked up the book Angelfall by Susan Ee. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it at first, but at a certain point, it was really difficult to have to stop reading because I had to do research or go volunteer or go to work, but I finally finished ...

Re: Deathly Hallows - Which one would you choose?

I am terrible, but I would probably choose the resurrection stone but only if it worked properly instead of bringing back someone the way it does in The Tale of Three Brothers. I would absolutely want to bring back my brother with it so I could see him again, even if it is a little selfish.

Re: Wonder: Extraordinary, but No One There to See (Ch 96) - The Walk Home (Ch 123)

At the beginning of the book, August says that he's okay with who he is, that he's used to it, but he still tries to cover his face at his new school. In fact, he doesn't even want to go in the beginning. But as the book continues, he really begins to come out of his shell or really I guess, take o...

Re: Wonder: Detention (Ch 64) - What I Miss Most (Ch 95)

The parts that make me laugh are August's little jokes. He is making fun of himself but he's okay with it because I think he's learning to be okay with who he is. But I sometimes wonder if the jokes he makes at his own expense causes subconscious harm. When I start to laugh, I have to think for a m...

Re: Wonder: A Tour of the Galaxy (Ch 32) - Partners (Ch 63)

I think I really like Via as a character. Her relationship with August reminds me a lot of my relationship with my brother. Although August has physical needs that require special attention, I had other special needs that required attention as a child, and I often wonder sometimes if it ever bother...

Re: Wonder: Ordinary (Ch 1) - Names (Ch 31)

I'm going to put this whole thing in spoilers just to be safe even though I don't think I'm giving out a lot of spoilish information, it's still somewhat spoiling? I hate that word by the way. Although I was bullied for other reasons than August is "bullied," I still feel for him a lot in this book....

Re: Book Review - The Bad Beginning

This was a quick read, so I was able to get through it in a couple of days. I don't remember ever reading this series, and I think if I had as a child, it may have had a different impact on me than it has an adult, then again, it may not have. It would have depended on when I read the series as I we...

Re: Marginalized Authors

I was finally able to finish an excellent novel called Pachinko by Min Jin Lee. The most I can say about this novel is, wow! When I first picked this book up last summer, I didn't know if I would actually like it or not considering its length and the premise it held, but when I picked it up again a ...

Marginalized Authors

Since last summer, I have been reading more and more books from authors that fall under this category of marginalized authors. This category includes women, people of color, LGBQT+, people with disabilities, as well as ethnic, cultural and religious minorities. Other authors may fit into this catego...
