Re: Cooking Techniques

Honestly, I am a terrible cook. I can reliably make toast and cereal, but anything more than that usually ends up disastrous. However, I love to bake, and I'm pretty good if I do say so myself. I have no idea why there's such a difference in my cooking and baking skills. Luckily, my partner loves to...

Re: What is your favourite kind of puzzle?

I am a sucker for puzzles! My favourite is a good logic puzzle (thanks Prof. Scarlet Leslie-Lewis for introducing those to me back in the day!). I've also been really getting into nonograms lately. Sudoku, Hashi, tents and trees, cryptograms, and fallen letters puzzles are also super great. For what...

Re: How many alarms do you set?

I've had a problem with getting up in the morning ever since I was a teenager. I've tried everything, even those alarm clocks that squirt you with water if you don't turn them off in time. Right now, I set 7-8 alarms, each 5 minutes apart, on my phone, which I put on the opposite side of the room. T...

That's "Wonder" by Naughty Boy!

Walk with me, Suzy Lee
Through the park and by the tree
We will rest upon the ground
And look at all the bugs we found
Safely walk to school without a sound

Re: If the sorting hat sorted you into another house than your current one, what would it be?

Excellent question! I am absolutely a Slytherin, through and through. However, I do have some Ravenclaw traits, namely my academic motivation and creativity. I think these pair well with my Slytherin ambition and resourcefulness. ;)

Wicked the Movie

Starting this thread because I'm surprised it hasn't been made already! What did everyone think of the new Wicked movie? I wouldn't say I'm a die-hard Wicked fan (although I have seen the musical a few times, including the original with Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth), but wow, did I ever like t...

Re: Coraline - Increasing Terror - Chapters 11 & 12

Chapter 11: I think Coraline was really smart to do that, and I think in her position I would’ve done the same thing. We know that the Other Mother doesn’t like cats, and we know that the cat would be more than willing to scratch up the Other Mother to help Coraline and himself escape. Perhaps it wo...

Re: Coraline - Resolutions - Chapters 9 and 10

Chapter 9: This chapter was the most terrifying one for me. When Coraline discovers the Other Father, she shows him kindness. The Other Father tries his best to show kindness back to Coraline - however, since the Other Mother is controlling him, he cannot avoid attacking her. When the Other Father l...

Re: Coraline-Secrets Revealed-Chapters 7 & 8

Chapter 7: If I was in a pitch black room and suddenly felt what I thought was a person, I would be terrified. But, Coraline wasn’t. Perhaps because she knew instinctually that the entities in the room weren’t there to hurt her? Or, perhaps there was nothing scarier than the Other Mother, so whateve...

Zodiac Signs

Seeing as how we're in Taurus season (and the best season, in my totally unbiased opinion... JK :P I'm a very proud and unapologetic Taurus), I thought it would be interested to talk about Zodiac signs! Do you identify with your zodiac sign? What traits do you exhibit? Or, is there a sign that bette...

Re: Coraline-Hard Truths-Chapters 5 & 6

Chapter 5: What really stood out to me in this chapter is how much Coraline is brushed off in regards to her missing parents. First, she brings up to Miss Spink and Miss Forcible that her parents have “vanished under mysterious circumstances.” The two women don’t even bat an eye and completely igno...

Re: What's the Latest Movie You've Watched?

The last movie I watched was Shrek. I had seen it before, as it is one of the movies that defined my childhood. But I watched it again over the weekend and fully remembered how good it is. I will be watching Shrek 2 this weekend!

Re: Allergies!

I was allergic to two things: dust mites and cats. With cats being my favourite animal, and my future career as a veterinarian, I couldn't stand to be allergic to them. So, I underwent immunotherapy. A serum was made with my specific allergens and slowly over 3 and a half years, I increased my toler...

Re: Coffee Shop Orders

My order depends on the coffee shop I am going to. At Tim Horton's it's either a Double Double or a French Vanilla Cappuccino. For Starbucks, a Vanilla Sweet Cream Nitro Cold Brew. For other shops, I usually just play it safe and order something with chocolate in it :D Evie, are we the same person?...

Re: Card Games

My all time favourite game is cribbage. I have a hand-carved wooden crib board in the shape of a sockeye salmon that I absolutely adore and I make any excuse I can to bring it out.

I also have very fond memories of playing uno with my friends in high school and university.

Re: Coraline - Advancing Strangeness - Chapters 3 & 4

Chapter 3: The juxtaposition of the other mother’s world and Coraline’s real world is startling. For the first time in this book, Coraline is interested by what’s around her. Things are bright, the food tastes good, and the people are finally interested in her. However, there’s a sinister mood throu...

Re: Coraline - the Beginning - Chapters 1 & 2

Ever since the movie came out in 2009, I have loved Coraline. However… this is the first time I’ve ever read the book (thank you Spring Read Along team for gently nudging me to finally read it!). Chapter 1: The book starts off by painting a picture of Coraline and her life at her new house. She love...
