------

When I was 10 years old and in my fourth grade. I had a Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for Christmas. I didn't read that one because I thought it was too long. How naive was I! I remember me trying to read it I only got to chapter 5 and I gave up. (Just to let you know peple I wasn't interested in Harry Potter at this part.)

------

Then I turned 11 and I was at my fifth grade, of course I was still at my elementary school and we had a small library there. I was browsing around when I found Harry Potter ans the Sorcerers Stone. I checked it out of the Library and I took it home. I didn't even bother to read it I got really bored and I began to bother my sister.

"Karen! Go away!" my sister had said to me. I kept bugging her over and over...

She got so annoyed she threw Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone at me. "There! Go read that in the bathroom or something!"

"Shut up" was the only comeback I could think of...

I was sooo bored and I started to read. I skipped lots of parts and in 15 minutes I told my sister that I was done. "No your not!" shoving the book back at me. "Read it again!"

"Why should I!?" I asked her. She didn't answer and she was ignoring me. "Fine be that way!"

I started to read Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, and this time I read the excact details. I loved it! I skipped dinner and read it until I fell asleep.

I made my sister read the first book and didn't finish it. She said she doesn't want to waste her time reading people poking people to death with their wands.

I really hated her at that time but I wanted to share the glory of the Harry Potter Series with her I couldn't give up.

---------

I had read every Harry Potter that is out. I still like Harry Potter and still convincing my sister. I made her watch Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. (The worst by far...)

She loved it! Her favourite character is Ron Weasley. "God Ron is sooo cute!"

My sister and I became obsessed with Harry Potter. We write fanfictions, fanarts, we have every Harry Potter series, make videos about our favourite couples Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione, and my mom and dad says we will buy you every Harry Potter things if you don't commit suicide! /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" /> /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

I wasn't exactly an instant fan when Philosopher's Stone first came out. At best you could say I was indifferent, at worst, even opposed to it. My feelings mostly were due to the illustrations on the cover. What was so brilliant about a scrawny boy with sellotaped glasses? I wore almost the same lenses and no-one I knew thought they were anything noteworthy. So, despite the fact that all of my mates and some of the adults couldn't stop talking about the series, I dismissed them as silly and ergo, beneath my notice.

Yet everywhere I went, there seemed to be some sort of mad illness that had taken hold of people - Potteritis. There were posters, mugs, toys, Legos, bed coverings, calendars, number plates, clothes, pet collars, school supplies and more. I think what really hacked me off was when I was sent to the infirmary for a cut and the plaster used had "Harry Potter" and little gold balls with wings all over it.

As time passed, I became even more determined not to read them. Several of my close friends had caught onto that by then and were equally as determined to get me to read them. They made it their duty to make Harry Potter a part of my life regardless of my opinion. If we were talking about ourselves, they would mention which House they were likely to be in at Hogwarts (they kept telling me I was definitely a Slytherin). When we discussed football or any other sport, they brought up Quidditch.

One night, I was staying over at Catherine's - one of my friends - flat, celebrating her birthday. Harry Potter or anything to do with it hadn't come up all night, so I was somewhat suspicious, but I relaxed anyway. I should have known better. They might be a bit less cunning than I am, but they can be rather sneaky. The trouble started when we began playing Truth or Dare. We were about fifteen minutes into the game, when it was my turn. Liz asked me whether I wanted truth or dare and, feeling peckish, I said dare.

They smirked at each other and that's when I realised something was up. Liz then proceeded to smugly state that she dared me to read the first five chapters of Philosopher's Stone. Looking back now, I realise how clever they were. They knew I'd never read it otherwise and I'd have put my foot down if they asked me to read the whole book, so they dared me to read only a little way into it. They knew my what I now call "Slytherin pride" wouldn't allow me to back down from a dare, so they planned the party just for that purpose.

Anyway, I grudgingly borrowed Stone when I went home that morning, vowing to finish my required chapters all that day, then never look at the series again. As I was reading, though, I actually found myself enjoying it. By 4.03 in the afternoon, I had read the whole thing, and wanted more. But I couldn't let them know that they had succeeded. At least, not right away. I am a Slytherin, after all.

At school the next day, Liz practically assaulted me at the doors.

'Did you read it?' She asked excitedly.

I shrugged casually. 'Yeah,' I said, making sure to sound rather bored.

Her face fell. 'And?'

'And what? That's all you asked me to do.' I handed her back the book. 'I've got to get to class. See you later!'

This went on for the next week, with me secretly hiring the other books at the library. My mates were none the wiser. By Saturday, they were looking downright disgruntled. They had no idea that I was having a private Harry Potter fest at home. Since I'm a speed-reader, in that week I was about as knowledgeable as they were.

During that weekend, we were all queueing at the cinema, talking until the film started. Liz and Erika were debating something when I said, 'I wonder if Harry and Voldemort having the same wand cores will mean something later on?' (Only the third book was out by then.) 'Or if Hermione's usage of the Time Turner will affect her age?'

Everyone was gobsmacked. I don't think they've ever tricked me again. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I don't have very good people skills, and in turn.. don't have too many friends. Being shy naturally, and avoiding people as best as I can, I turned to books. I've always loved to read.. so naturally, when Harry Potter came out, I was the first of the kids in my fifth grade class to read it.

I was made fun of by all the kids I knew, simply because I read, but the teasing increased tenfold, now that I had Harry Potter in my hands.

I dived into the books, making the Trio my friends. And I've stuck with them Book One through now, Book Six. I'm obsessed with Harry Potter now at age sixteen, and still get made fun of a lot for it. But it makes me happy, and has kept me, in a lot of ways alive.

In my sixth form at school (last two years of high school) we were allowed out of school during lunch and free periods. In my last year i was working regularly and had a bit of money coming in that i just had to spend every week. During one of my free periods, i walked into the nearby shoping centre, desperate to spend my money on something i came accross HP1. Wanting to know what all the fuss was about, i brought a copy as it was reduced and i thought i might like it seeing as i had adored the Jill murphy worst witch series as a child. I took it home on the Thursday, and started to read it on the way home. Intrigued by the first chapter i read the entire book within the night and returned the following day to get the next two. That evening, the friday, i dislocated my knee, and was pretty much chair bound so i got through those two very quickly. Having taken the Monday off of school as i was unable to walk, i returned on tuesday, in considerable amounts of pain, just to buy the GoF! I had to take the next week off to recover from my exertion, but it was worth it. I have been obsessed ever since, and have attended the book launch for the last two.

In the year of 2000-2001:

During my sophomore year in high school my friend Mariela needed a summary to a book called Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. I had asked her why and she stated, “Well Vanessa, I need to finish this book to make my summary report and I have nothing. She asked me to do this for her because I had a “so-calledâ€￾ gift in predicting the ending of books. So I said, “Fine, just tell me the beginning and I will guess the rest for you.â€￾ She began telling the story with Harry being the only boy who survived from You Know Who to Hogwarts and a little of Professor Quirell.â€￾

So I said, “Ok, than this boy Harry is very important to Voldemort. He is going to come back with Professor Quirell and try to kill him again but something is going to happen to Harry because Professor Quirell will not be able to get the Sorcerers stone for which I believe Voldemort will need it. Ron and Hermione will help him in is journey and Harry for once in his life will have friends in is life. â€￾ (I guess I was not that far off.)

As I told her this I began to think how interesting the book was. Her sister Tina also read the book and later told me to read the book. I gave it a little thought and when the first movie came out, I realized that I had to read the book. I had watched the movie at least five times before I finally got my hands into a book.

After the reading the first book I needed to get my hands on the second, third, and so on. It was something of a new addiction; I needed Hogwarts and Harry Potter as much as I need the motivation to continue to seek knowledge in many other things. And now I am here! /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

On an extremely cold December 21, 2000, our house burned down with everything in it, including most of our cats. That day, my husband stood around watching the firemen trying to put out the fire, and later me trying to find out if any of the cats had survived. He was in bad health anyway, and the one thing that I was grateful for was that he had not been in the house asleep when it happened. Anyway, we stayed the night with friends and the next day he went to the hospital, where he stayed off and on for nearly two years. At that point, I had never heard of Harry Potter (no kids). Sometime that year, while my husband was out of the hospital, we went to see HP&tSS when it came out at the theatre. I liked it so much that I went out and bought all the books that were available, and read them while I was at the hospital with him. That took me up through the Goblet of Fire. I'm sure the nurses thought I was crazy because I was laughing like a fool at Aunt Marge when they came in to check on him after surgery. Up until a month ago I had never read the books a second time, but I decided to re-read all of them prior to HPB coming out, and just about that time, I also found out about HOL from one of my friends. Now, I'm sorted into Ravenclaw and making new friends daily. It's a very interesting place to be.

How did I come to realise that Harry Potter was my all time favourite book? Well, it took me a while!!!

Six years ago, my friend started reading two series of books. One was Tamora Pierce's "Lioness Rampant" quartet, and the other was the brilliant "Harry Potter", which we have all come to know and love. She recommended that I read both series, so I read Tamora Pierce's novels, but after reading the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone, and finding it not 'interesting' enough for me, I decided it was boring and I wouldn't read it. The following year, Goblet of Fire came out and I made such fun of all the people becoming obsessed with Harry Potter.

Little did I know that three months later, I would be one of them.

My sister's class started reading Philosopher's Stone as a class and she started raving about how good it was. I tried my best to just roll my eyes and tease her, but soon my curiousity became the better of me and I picked up the only Harry Potter book available at the school library, Chamber of Secrets.

I was hooked! I read the novel in a week and my mum bought the first novel for my sister and me. I read it in a day.

My cousins then lent me Goblet of Fire, and although I was missing details, I found it just as enjoyable. Finally I bought Prisoner of Azkaban and loved that too.

I was one of the many nuts that were at our local department store at 8 am for the release of both Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince and I read them both in about 6 hours each. I love Harry and I am glad that I was lucky enough overcome my stubborness about the book (something that doesn't happen often!)

Well, my wife and I decided to check out the huge parties going on at our local book stores on our wedding anniversary (July 15/16). And it ended up looking like a lot of fun. Though we had never read the books or seen the movies, we decided it might be fun. So, I got all of the audiobooks, the movies, and the first book. And I am flying through the first book, and listening to it as well... We LOVED the movies, and I feel the same about the book(s)!

So, we are really looking forward to the 4th film. By that time I am sure I will have read all the books. And now we are ready to be at the next (last) Harry Potter party!

I was so excited to see that there was a great online Hogwarts! This website and School are so great for me as a new fan... and a new student (even though I am a senior in college)! Thanks Hogwarts for adding to my great Harry Potter experience!

I've added all the GiHP stories now to the Yearbooks. Well, not all - there are some one-liners and some with horrible spelling (please mind that the English word 'I' is capitalized, and after a comma or period, there is a blank) - if you can't find your story in your yearbook, please submit it again, a bit more "story" like and so that I don't have to edit out 100s of typos /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Everyone got 10 points awarded, which will become effective on September 1st.

All Newbies (and those Second-Fifth Years who have not yet submitted their story) are welcome to post their story here in this thread. I'll add them to the yearbooks, and the points will count for the coming schoolyear.

Ah, one of the great questions. How did I fall in love with Harry Potter? It all started on a bright, sunny day in the ninth year of my life, when I was a fourth grader. My classmates and I were in the library for the weekly library "class" (which was more of a free time than a class). The librarian, Mrs. D, would always read us a short story or a chapter from a kid's novel before letting us loose to pick out our two books for the week. While sitting there with my friends, I had no idea that my life would be changed for the better in a matter of minutes.

I was sitting with a few of my friends on the floor, having a conversation about Animorphs and pondering which books they would have in that day, when she told us to settle down.

"Now today," Mrs. D started, "I'm going to read the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone to you." She opened up the hard covered book with this gangly looking dark haired boy with glasses and a scar riding on a broom trying to catch this strange ball with wings, cleared her throat, and said, "'The Boy Who Lived. Mr. and Mrs. Dursley of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much...'"

By the time she was done reading the first chapter, I wanted to sink myself into this world with wizards named Albus Dumbledore who could turn out street lamps with Put-Outers that looked like lighters, with witches named Professor McGonagall who could turn into a cat, with large, wild looking men named Hagrid who borrowed a flying motorcycle from someone named Sirius Black to bring a baby to a new home, and with a baby boy named Harry Potter who would be a legend but wouldn't know it.

We were let loose in the library, and I instantly went on a search for this amazing book...and found that the only copy that was in, was the one that Mrs. D read, and would need so she could read it to the next fourth grade class that would come in on the next day.

Weeks passed, and all the copies remained out.

I waited.

And waited.

And waited.

Until one day the announcement was made that the book fair would be at our school the next week, starting Monday and ending Friday. I slipped into the library Friday afternoon to return one of my books, and I saw the shelves for the book fair out, and saw the most glorious thing being placed on a shelf. A copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. My little nine year old heart did pirouettes. I raced home and begged my mom for the six dollars I would need for the book in paperback. On Sunday night she gave me the money, and Monday morning, I was ready.

I walked to school that morning, setting out extra early so I would be prepared. I got to school and tried to go inside. The large red doors were locked, and would only be opened when it was time for everyone to come in from the playground. The school day dragged by, and I wanted to go get my book. Finally, the bell rang and I shot down the stairs like a slinky going on fastforward. I dashed into the library, and saw the book, sitting there, right next to a hardcovered copy of Chamber of Secrets. I picked up the book, paid for it, and set off, going home so I could read my book.

I only took a break to do my homework and to eat dinner. At school I read it. At home I read it. Before the week was out, I was finished and begging Mom and Dad to buy me Chamber of Secrets.

I had only taken a small step toward my love of the wizarding world.

A month passed, and I yearned for Chamber of Secrets. Finally, on a trip to my Grandma's house, I bought it, and once again, was finished quickly. It was around this time when Prisoner of Azkaban came out, and I had another book to add to my wish list.

Months passed.

I continued to want Prisoner of Azkaban.

Finally, on a chilly night at my Grandma's house in late fall during my fifth grade year, I had it in my grasp. By the end of the book Harry was no longer my favorite character. That spot had been given to Sirius Black, who I thought was the coolest character to come around since Han Solo.

The rest, as they say, is history. I have now read all six books, the only one I haven't gotten on the day it was released was Half-Blood Prince, which I aquired two days later, and finished in a matter of hours because I couldn't put it down.

I guess the short answer to the question "How did I fall in love with Harry Potter?" is: a wonderful librarian read it to me and gave me a push towards the wizarding world.

Well, I was a small eight year old third grader that moved into a new place when I finally found out that I actually loved Harry Potter. I first heard it from my friend John in second grade back at my old school, but never really realized that I would be a total fanatic!

It all started when my new third grade teacher, Ms. S, brought some new books to her class, including all the series of Harry Potter (1-4) After I finished all my assignments, I picked up the thickest Harry Potter book, which so happened to be Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Even though I had never read the first three books, I understood it completely for a soon-to-be-fourth grader.

I was really interested in the fourth book after I returned it to Ms. S. When I finally became nine, I owned my first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. After finishing that one, I bought the first book, finally admitting that I didn't know what had happened during Harry's first year. Then I bought the third book and finally, I got the fourth book as a birthday present. I finally had all the series. I read them over and over, in order though, of course /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

When I was at the bookstore yet again to check on some other book, I found a large notice sign that said "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, coming soon on June 21, 2003." I got so excited and told all my friends and family. When I woke up on June 21, the whole family went to the bookstore and I bought the book.

Back to 2005, I received the new book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince two days after it came out.

Well, the answer to how I got into Harry Potter was this: a teacher and a friend showed me the path to Harry Potter.

I first started reading when I was either 11 or 12, can't even remember now. It was after the first movie came out, though I hadn't seen the movie or really had interest in it. My friend was reading SS and she began to explain it to me.

"It's really interesting, I'm rereading it though. If you want you can borrow it from me..." She said. And I agreed, I went home that night and started it.

In about a week I finished and gave the book back to my friend. Her and I began to discuss and she told me of the others. I think it was up to GoF. I took out CoS from the library and started reading.

By then I realized the movies were out, and went to see SS. Honestly, I was slightly disappointed because the Harry I saw, wasn't my Harry as with all the other characters. My friend seemed to have the same thoughts. But I continued reading anyways.

And now, after reading Half-Blood Prince, I am still in love with Harry Potter. He's just a likeable character and the stories are so well written...*sighs* Oh, how I love JKR /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

I got started with Harry Potter 4 years ago during the Summer. We were vacationing on the beach and one of my nieces came from a year in Italy with the first 3 books (in italian of course). She started to tell me about the story, and I got hooked.
As soon as I returned to the city, I bought the first book, Philosopher's Stone (in spanish) and devoured it in one night. Next day I went and bought the other 2 books available here.

As the time passed, and I discovered that there were Harry Potter comunities in the Web, I joined a forum 2 years ago and ran deeply in the Potterverse, starting to collect memorabilia and then buying the books in english and reading them, because many of the names of places and artifacts and spells and potions were different in both languages. I had to re-learn many things. Now I have all the books in english, and in spanish in paperback and hard cover versions (the paperbaks to be borrowed, no one dares to touch my hard covers!).

Of course, the zenith of my obssesion was when I first got my robes and a friend knitted me a Ravenclaw scarf (wrong colours: silver and blue but, *sigh*...) and then I use them in every costume party I go. Since the beginning I am a rabid Ravenclaw, and proud of it. My studio is full with quills, time turners, pens, dolls, snitchs, inkwells, patches, pins, cards, coins, and a big eagle's painting. Yes... I am obssesed with Harry Potter.

How did I get into Harry Potter? Well it started when my sister got into it first. She forced me to read the 1st book. I didn't want to at first because it looked very long and hard. Then I started to like it but my sister took the book away because it was due at the library. When Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban came out in Pay-Per-View. My sister told me about the movie and the plot. I watched the movie and I liked it. Then in the movie, I started to fancy Ron Weasley. I fell for him. So he's my favourite character.
I really wanted to own the books so I did extra chores and earn money to buy the first book. I read it. I bought the 2nd and 3rd book at Chapters, where I got a giftcard from my 6th Grade Graduation. I owned the 4th book on Christmas when my cousin bought us presents(I hated it before). Then my dad bought the 5th book for me and my mum bought me the 6th book. My goal is to read them all 20 times. Now I am so obsessed with them.
I would like to thank my sister, who showed me the series and forced me to read it. I wouldn't be like this if it weren't for you.

Well let's see...I was a freshman in college when the first movie came out and I enjoyed it, but refused to read the books because I thought they were for kids. I picked on my roommates for reading them and talking about them all the time.

My Junion year in college, I joined a sorority and one of my favorite sisters was flat out obsessed with Harry Potter. I picked on her occasionally too until her boyfriend looked at me and asked, "You mean you HAVEN'T READ THEM?!? YOU HAVE to read them, by the time you get to the third book they will blow your (bad word) mind!"

Now under normal circumstances, I do not do something just because someone tells me to. BUT! TO hear and see that reaction from a guy who's basically a music and arts snob (not in the typical sense, but in the sense that he's very picky and very critical of music and movies and likes to stick to one or two genres ONLY)

Anyways, it was his reaction that made me suck it up and when my roommates were gone, I took one of their books and started to read it...6 hours later, I was done with the book and looking for the next one. I was instantly hooked and refused to go anywhere without the current book I was reading. I worked in a pizza shop and propped my books open with olive oil containers while I made dough and prepared other foods.

I've read all of the books at least twice, seen the movies more than I can remember, and have been to movie and book release parties since I really became a fan. Looks like I should have taken my own advice, "Don't knock it, till you try it!"

Why I liked Harry Potter?
Well when I was 11 my dad went to china by himself to travel around there, when he came home we watched some movies he brought home, before harry potter I never had much of an imagination, I had read one of the books before my dad brought back the video, it was the third book of harry potter..I was olny 10 when I read it I like stopped in the middle, but when I watched the movie it was so cool, I would watch it agian and agian

Than there was something at the library where you read books and me and my sister were to get some books we wanted from entering the thing[ I think it was a summer reading program] and I chose the first harry potter book, suddenly after I finished that book, I became obssessed with the books and I read all 5 books except the 6th one which I have not gotten yet /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />

Once upon a time, not-so-long ago in a not-so-far-away land, I couldn't stand people who talked about Harry Potter all the time. *gasp* Now, don't throw apples at me yet. I was young and naive. I didn't know any better.

But anyway, the first time I decided to at least give Harry Potter a chance, I think I was 10 years old. It was when the first movie came out and my brother and sister-in-law took me and my niece to see it for her 6th(?) birthday.

Well, after I saw the movie I decided that I had to have the books. My grandma went to the local Wal-Mart and got the first and second book for me within the week. I read the second one first because I had already seen the first movie and I REALLY wanted to see what happened next. So I read the Chamber of Secrets and then I read the Sorcerors Stone. After that I rushed to the local Wal-Mart once again and got the third book.

Well, it was back in the cold days of February, 2000 (actually, I'm guessing at the month, but I know it was sometime early in the year)...
I was living in a little village where the library was only open 2 or 3 afternoons a week & most of the time it was open I was jockeying for a computer to check my email, so I asked my mum to loan me some books to read.
I was feeling quite miserable when I picked up one of the books she'd loaned me and began to read "Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone". Immediately I was whisked away to this fantastic place called Hogwarts. It truly was a magical experience!
As soon as I got home I borrowed the 2nd book from her & I've been reading them ever since.

How I got into Harry Potter, Hmmmmm. Well, I guess it started with my friend, Chelsea. She had not yet read the Harry Potter books and neither had I. It was such a huge thing (and still is) that we just couldn't resist reading.
Well I was pretty young at the time and I wasn't really understanding it so i gave up for a while. But I still really wanted to read it so I started off with some easier books and kept on getting harder and harder books to read until finally, in the summer in between 4th and 5th grade, I read all five books that were out in one week.
Then I started going Harry Potter crazy. I got every book about Harry Potter that I could get my hands on. I got a bunch of action figures and I made it known at school that I was now Harry Potter obsessed.
Now I am so mad at myself for not getting into it earlier because now there isn't that much merchandise to get. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" />

Getting in to Harry Potter

Well lets see now. On Christmas day when I was 11 I had started reading more grown-up books. This was beacuse at school, my teacher had said I was so good at reading she had put me up 3 more levels!!!

So, I had opened all of my presents, when, I saw one right behind the tree. I got it out and it was very heavy. I opened it to find: 4 Harry Potter books. I had never heard of Harry Potter and so I got reading them straight away. By the time I had finshed them all, it came on the teli that J.K Rowling would be publishing three more books: Books 5,6 and 7.

And so thats the story of how I, Rebecca Peck got in to Harry Potter.
