I chose Gwen because it's just in general a name I like, and Juniper because my wand
is made of juniper and in general I like the wood. This was all after my mom told me
that Elizabeth Smith was too dull and she wouldn't let me register if I didn't choose an
interesting name. So Gwen Juniper came forth. That's it.

Corisa, I LOVE Pride and Prejudice. I really think the new version of the movie is the best, too.
As for Verena Laurent, Verena comes from a main character in Henry James' The Bostonians. Laurent comes from Yves Saint Laurent, the fashion designer.
Even the names of Verena's parents and pets are literary. Laurent is the only non-literary reference. Her dad Amory is from a Fitzgerald novel. Honoria, her mother's name, is from a Dickens novel. I'm not a Dickens fan, but I thought Verena and Honoria went well together as both names are derived from virtues. Verena's cat is named Heathcliffe from Wuthering Heights and her owl is Selden from The House of Mirth.
I'm an English major if you can't tell.

Well, the story behind the name Mia Vardales is not so special as someone may think.
A couple of years ago I was trying to find the name of a character for a fanfiction I wrote (and that I never finished, by the way /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="<_<" border="0" alt="dry.gif" /> )
One night I saw "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and I changed a few letters from actress name Nia Vardalos...

I chose mine because it's Gaelic and it's quite a pretty name. I was up looking Gaelic and Irish names for a completely different reason and I came across Caoilainn, which is pronounced Kay-lin. I also was looking at the original Gaelic beginnings of some modern last names. Quinn, which is a shortened form of O'Quinn comes from ó Cuinn. I put them together and was quite pleased with how it looked.

Well Ariel stems not from the Disney princess but from the Archangel Ariel which translates into the lioness of God. I always thought it sounded cool though. Come to think of it i suppose it's rather an ironic name for a Slytherin to have though. Kingston was just something I came up with that I thought sounded British and rolled well with Ariel.

I love the series LOST on tv, and I loved how Charlie said the name Claire, it made it sound sooooo pretty! And when I decided I wanted to be called Claire, Stanley was the first thing that popped into my head! I don't know why though... /unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
Uh oh! I didn't read the signature rules and now one of the evil forum admins changed it. I can read the rules here.

Well my name isn't very original, Sophie means wisdom. I read some where on the net that
it was one of the top baby names in Scotland. My dad is half Scottish and has always been
very proud to be Scottish so I thought it was a good choice. I chose Delacour because my family
is French-Canadian. I grew up in a house where all the adults spoke french, and we went to Quebec
often. In real life my last name isn't French, so on HOL I wanted a French last name.

Nadia comes from just me looking up names out of bordeom and I immediately liked it. Jaskoviak I chose because it was my great-grandmother's last name and it seemed to click with the name Nadia. Nadia is Russian and Jaskoviak is Croatian (I'm pretty sure, my great-grandmother's ancestry isn't perfectly clear yet) so they don't exactly go together, but sshhh don't tell.

Alas my family was killed by a wild dragon on vacation. Asleep in their tents the dragon had smelled my parents butterbeer and muffin flavored sunscreen and they were eaten. Do no blame the Dragon for he is an innocent but let this be a Warning! not use flavored sunscreen. So I am in the process of getting adopted by a new family the Fabula's. I hope they like me. *Sniff**Sniff*
so my name is pronounced La-Mia Fa-BYEW-La
Lamia Lascivia Lamia Fabula
( Apparantly, alot goes into a name. Please be careful when using latin words to make your name. As I have recently found out the meaning of the word may be different in another language. So check and double check it for appropriatness.)

I chose Sarah because I liked that name, and Evans was after Lily Evans in Harry Potter because I like Harry's mom since the first book. Also my name is easy to pronounce.
Sarah is a shortened version of Seralina, I thought it was cool. Evans is after Lily Evans. My middle name Hazel is because Hazel is a colour that is neither here nor there. Just like me

Let me start off by saying that I was a humongous dork in sixth grade. XD
My friends and I made our own V.F.D. after reading Lemony Snicket's books, where we would spy and write in our commonplace books and stuff Sebald-coded-letters into eachothers' lockers, and we also had V.F.D. names. Mine was Meg. Meg was from the Phantom of the Opera, and London... well it sounded cool.
That became my role-playing name and I liked it so much that I used it when I signed up for HOL. Well, that's my *fascinating* history. :3

I actually put a lot of thought in my name, so I'm glad this thread exists!
I was looking for a cool latin word with a nice ring to it, and perhaps a deep meaning. (and no, I do not know latin. at all.)
After typing preety much every word I could think of in an online "english to latin" dictionary, I found a word that had the following meanings: purity, charity, virtue, sanctity, sacredness.
I liked it, I liked it a lot, but the word was awfully long and hard to pronounce- sanctimonia. So I took the first half of this incredibly long word and made it my last name, while the second half became my first name, and there you have it-
Monia Sancti.

My name was very easy for me to come up with, First off I was looking for a word that conveyed purity, and honesty, after seeing many names I just wasn’t satisfied, and all of a sudden it hit me!!! Ivory the color, pretty close to white, but not quite there. It was perfect them I just changed the spelling and Ivorie became my name.

I like lakes so I thought of Lake, and I recently watched LOTR, so Shire comes from that. As for Birch, I read a book and there were 3 kittens and 2 died, but Birch lived, so I like that name. And Bloom comes from the fact that my whole name is very nature-y, and Bloom sounded good, also it is not from Orlando Bloom either.
You are who you want to be
