April - Gifts For All

Post by Prof. Maxim Trevelyan »

Once you finish in the basement, the interns disperse. Hannah approaches you, still wearing the serene smile and points you to the stairs. She tells you to visit the fifth floor and see whether they have any work for you. The fifth floor is the visitors' tearoom and hospital shop and it serves as a place for visitors to relax and purchase gifts for patients.

Once you arrive, slightly out of breath, the wizard running the gift shop asks for your help sorting out the messy inventory of the shop. Give a list of five items you would find in a magical hospital gift shop and include a short explanation why they are being sold (e.g. lime-green chocolate wand - symbolizing the Healers working in St. Mungo’s)

Post your list below by April 30th 11:59 pm HOL time to get 25 Hoots and 50 beans.

1. Liquid candy in a potions bottle - To help young Witches and Wizards get used to the idea of taking potions.
2. Stuffed toys charmed with with warming and/or cooling charms- for you Witches and Wizards to cuddle with, during their stay, that will also help them to warm up or cool down depending on their needs.
3. Lime-green licorice wands- Candy to help raise funds for the hospital.
4. Cauldron cake with orange coloured chocolate filling- To symbolize the Artefact Accidents ward, and to raise funds for the hospital.
5. Teal Green Children's Robes- For the young patients to pretend they are healers. They will not be Lime green because we don't want them potentially mistaken for actual healers, there will be distinguishing marks on it so that people who are unable to tell the difference in the shade should not mistake them for actual healers.

Some interesting gift shop items I found while doing inventory include:
1. Enchanted key chains of the healers- to show support and appreciation of the healers
2.A wide variety of snakes- to help when hospital visitors get hungry
3. Wizard chess sets- to help with boredom that can come along when you are stuck in the hospital.
4.Small bottles of soap and shampoo- in case you forgot to pack your own
5. Toy potion bottles- for children to play with

My favorite gift items while doing inventory:

1. A tiny replica of a candy trolley with little pieces of candy on the bottom and top shelves so kids can have a fun toy and a few sweets.
2. Notebook with self writing quill so people can speak right to the book and it'll write for them in case they injured an arm.
3. Message rings - rings that light up and display a message within short range so kids can have a cool toy ring and can send little notes to other people in the ward.
4. See through quill with glowing ink that changes color so people can write in the dark in all sorts of colors that are constantly changing.
5. Never ending flowers - flowers that never die and will change with a spoken word so if you'd rather have tulips one day you simply have to say it.

1. Toy clankers with miniature dragons-to amuse the younger patients while they are incapacitated

2. Pens with color-changing ink -to allow patients to write correspondence, keep journals, etc. in a fun way.

3. Wizarding Crackers-Technically these are usually reserved for Christmas, but it's dreary enough being in a hospital, so why the heck not?!! Sometimes an impromptu celebration is the best medicine of all.

4. Lime-green candyfloss-Candyfloss is a popular sweet, especially among the younger patients. The lime green is to replicate the color of the healer's robes.

5. Enchanted balloons- The balloons are enchanted with a variety of effects, such as pretty sparkles, tinkling bells, and miniature fairy dolls that will dance around the room while music plays. This is to bring a bit of cheer to the patients, as well as serve as a distraction to the younger patients (or faint of heart patients of any age) while medical treatments/unpleasant medicine is given.
